Evolution of taste processing shifts dietary preference - Nature Calcium imaging of taste neurons and the ventral brain provides insight into evolutionary divergence of food choice in Drosophila species, supporting a role of sensorimotor processing in addition to p...

Thrilled to share our new paper!
With @tomtom-auer.bsky.social team, we asked how #evolution reshapes what animals #eat to match their ecological niches. Using pan-neuronal Ca2+ imaging, we show that the changes are in how the brain processes #taste.

So proud🀩: Beautiful work by @clykken.bsky.social πŸ’ƒπŸ» et al: finally we understand how the hippocampus can express multiple maps even though grid cell inputs are universal metrics.
E.g. hippocampal global remapping was induced when different grid modules anchored independently to environments. See πŸ‘‡πŸ½

Super cool Anna… I remember patching some giant GnRH+ neurons in the olfactory bulb with different spike sizes . I always thought those smaller spikes were form a gap junction coupled neuron. But perhaps they were from a different AΔ°S … btw what marker is used to label AΔ°S here ?
