With all the recent stuff going on, I do want to affirm here that all of the localization for @mangamavericks.bsky.social titles are done 100% by humans.
We have no interest in using AI for any part of the localization/production process.
Resharing this to bring some cheer to the timeline...
I know I’ve been stretching myself too thin when I’ve been bedridden for a days and a half. 💀
On the classic manga side too, a lot of rights have changed hands (or reverted back to the mangaka), since their initial publication. That doesn’t make it blanket easier/harder to license and there are other factors involved too, but just something to keep in mind.
I can’t say Manga Mavericks’ experience with licensing is 1:1 with other new English publishers (we technically existed for ~9 years before doing this so we always have a weird story to tell), but a lot more is available than people think.
What I will say as well to people sending suggestions: don’t hold back. Some titles are of course easier to obtain than others, but that’s something for us to figure out on our end. If it’s not licensed, feel free to suggest it!
It’s really fun reading people’s licensing suggestions!
A few have actually been titles that we’ve already licensed and/or are already looking at, so it looks like @mangamavericks.bsky.social is on the right track! 😉
It makes me really happy seeing Matt’s legacy live on, and with especially the great hands over at Glacier Bay!

This includes more indies titles, but also traditional publisher works such as classics from influential mangaka, shojosei, and queer stories!

Path From Tanuki Temple is such a fun read and the artwork is like nothing else I’ve seen from a self-published work!
I’m also super thankful to @vsatone.bsky.social’s lettering on this too, who really did an amazing job capturing the analog feel of the work in the sfx subtitles.
