And I’ll add, we love having an EV! Once you go EV, it’s hard to imagine ever going back to gas. They are clean, efficient, and no more gas station stops!

Loved seeing this news in @katharinehayhoe.com’s newsletter:
“Over a quarter of all vehicle sales around the world are now EVs! By the third quarter of 2025, a full 27 percent of passenger vehicles sold globally were EVs or plug-in hybrids.“

Butterfly with her abdomen curved to lay an egg at the base of a flower bud.
Photo where we can see the egg between the flower buds.
New year, new life! Happy 2026.
A Ceraunas Blue (Hemiargus ceraunus) lays an egg on the budding flowers of a plant in the Superstition Mountains of Arizona. The mountains have been so green & full of butterflies this year thanks to the many rains. Last year was the opposite - dry and brown.

The real breakthrough of the year isn’t AI.
It’s the explosive growth of renewable energy.

When the B is missing, and the sign reads “HAPPY IRTHDAY”
Yet it still sounds right.
It’s the day we appeared on the Earth! 💚🌎

Gulls always get me! It’s so hard to tell them apart. But a great challenge for casual beach time birding when laying on a towel or munching on some snacks by the sea.
A finch party at the birdbath.
Each morning I run the electric kettle to make tea/coffee and then I run it again to bring hot water outside that will thaw the ice in the birdbath. It usually results in a much appreciated flow of feathered visitors from my work window!

Does anyone else’s cat make them a better birder?
My indoor window-watching fur ball spots interesting scenes on the reg.
From baby cardinals in trees, to birds enjoying the bird bath, and even bunnies munching on my echinacea plants. She spots it first from the windowsill!

The companies we got quotes from warned that radiator heat is way more comfortable than “air heat” 🤔
Fascinating. I wonder what it would look like to get a heat pump that would power our radiators? I wonder if that’s a thing I could get here in the US?
We would do the whole house humidifier which is appealing to me too.
Did you switch from radiator heat to air heat?
Thanks! We’d be switching from oil and boiler system with radiators to using the air ducts for heating too. 4 out of 6 companies that came to give us quotes warned about the less comfortable feeling we’d get with the switch…
Today!!
We are very close to getting a heat pump (just need to sign the top ) but need a bit more info. My husband and I are on different sides of the fence on this decision right now!
Hey Bluesky!
Who here has a heat pump in their home? Can you tell me a bit about your winters and if you’re comfortable and how dry the air gets? #energysky
Amazing!! ☀️ way to go California! Would love to see the east coast meet or exceed this pace. #solar
Ummm I think I need this
Turn off any extra lights at night! Help birds along their migration routes. #birdsky
Goooo birds!!! 🦅
And also a place for getting water. Such an amazing structured! I agree- lots to love with a cup plant.

Amazing!! I love Boneset. Had a Lesser Boneset appear in my yard as a volunteer and it too attracted large parties of pollinators!
Got a basket for harvesting veggies in the garden.
Turned into a cat basket.
Bumble bee on yellow petal of cup plant
Two bees visiting two separate flowers of the cup plant. One bee has tons of pollen on its hind legs.
A bumblebee resting on the underside of a cup plant.
The bees are loving the flowering Cup Plant! They seem to like resting or sleeping on it too.
