Once, one of my professors said that if, in place of a murdered journalist, dozens of others appear and turn everything upside down to finish their colleague’s work – those responsible for the killing should start to worry. Well, I became part of such a project. Retweet

My new, long reflection about 1989-1991, which we all know as “the collapse”. I argue that if we saw it as liberation, we would have better recognized the dangers of reversal and Russian revanche. We need the liberation lens even more today. www.eurozine.com/liberation-n...
Dear Volodymyr Zelenskyy, dear Ukrainian friends, you are not alone.
The Oval Office ambush is wake up call #742 to Europe: America doesn’t have your back & you are out of time. Seize Russian assets in the EU, embargo Russian energy, allow Ukraine to hit targets on Russian territory with our missiles, & prepare new air defense & troop commitments.
Every single philanthropic institution needs to do this rather than retracting right now.

Putin planned to take Kyiv in three days, but he couldn't take Kyiv in three years.
The only way Putin wins now—the only way he finally succeeds in destroying Ukraine’s sovereignty—is by persuading Ukraine’s allies to abandon Ukraine.

Three years. Slava Ukraini.
If your instinct tends a bit towards catastrophising - not unreasonable right now - and asserting confidently an opinion along the lines of: "all is lost, US is done, nobody can do a thing, may as well calm down, go home, and wait for the end," stop and ask who benefits from people pushed to apathy.
We need facts as never before.
3 years after Putin invaded Ukraine, I spent 24 hours with combat medics on the Ukrainian frontline.
Their courage, compassion, dedication & skill are astounding.
Please read & please never stop standing up for Ukraine. 🇺🇦

An image promoting a semi-frequent email newsletter titled 'DO SOMETHING. ANYTHING.' It features a logo with a raised fist symbolising activism, rendered in black with pink radio waves emanating from the top, symbolising outreach or communication. To the right, a text description states the newsletter contains articles covering politics, mobilisation, activism, campaigning, and fundraising from a digital and technology perspective, in a neat, black font against a white background.
Latest edition of my email newsletter 'Do Something.Anything' is hitting spam folders and inboxes as I type.
Some good news.
A pep talk.
Some cringe.

When you just had to be home on a Monday night to watch Twin Peaks because if you missed it you missed it and god help you trying to figure out what was going on next week.

- Suggest up to 3 songs that you love
– At least two should be new
– One can be an old song that deserves to be heard and appreciated by more people
– I'll add everything into a Spotify playlist and share it here
– We all get to discover new music.
Easy.
Who's going to be first?

Eight years ago now, struggling to find new music I liked, I started asking people on social media for recommendations and I stuck them all in a playlist and shared it with everyone.
It was such a great way to find new music that I kept doing it.
So. The 2024 edition...

It’s such wonderful television
We didn’t even have the fake voice over here. SF were completely banned from TV and radio until 1994.
Aw Sian, you’re making me feel very old!
I remember John Craven covering the 1976 US election on Newsround. I can remember the 1977 General Election and the Troubles were an ever present background noise.
The hunger strikes in 1981 (aged 11) were probably the first to really make an impression
I adored Karla’s Choice and heartily second @columnist.bsky.social recommendation. A brilliant achievement by @harkaway.bsky.social
Some awesome music is this thread
Leia, our miniature schnauzer who used to be black but is now a kind a black / silver / grey blend, curled up in a blue sofa, resting her head on a white Christmas cushion.
Someone loves her cushions
