“Roosevelt did not take drink orders, but improvised new and eccentric concoctions, variations on the whiskey sour, Tom Collins, or old-fashioned. The drinks he identified as “martinis” were mixed with too much vermouth, and sometimes contaminated with foreign ingredients such as fruit juice or rum. Churchill, who preferred straight whiskey or brandy, accepted Roosevelt’s mysterious potions gracefully and usually drank them without complaint, though Alistair Cooke reported that the prime minister sometimes took them into the bathroom and poured them down the sink.” Excerpt From Pacific Crucible: War at Sea in the Pacific, 1941-1942 Ian W. NEW: Megan Twohey and I went deep on Elon Musk’s intense drug use as he rose to political power alongside Trump last year. He was using so much ketamine that he told people it was affecting his bladder. At SpaceX, he is getting warnings ahead of drug tests www.nytimes.com/2025/05/30/u...

This is such a good and useful thread! I love cookbooks, online recipes are hell to find, save, look at while actually cooking and make learning how to cook harder.
Adding Tuesday Nights by Christopher Kimball and the classic Joy of Cooking for a more textbook-style approach.
I feel like they cast Timothee Chalamet in that Wonka movie because he has an air of whimsy when they should have cast Kieran Culkin because he's snide. Wonka is SNIDE.

We really need to get back to inventions, as a society. Innovation is failing us, we need to invent better vices, tech, and foundational garments.

Listening to Musk talk about federal debt on an X space and how it's a major problem that the US spends so much paying off the interest on that debt. It's something he is an expert in. He borrowed $13 billion to buy Twitter and was paying $1 billion a year in interest on that debt every year.
