Surprise, surprise. This isn’t just bad journalism. It’s a deliberate editorial choice that speaks volumes about how establishment media downplays collective action challenging power. When hundreds of thousands of people coordinate across an entire nation to protest governmental policies, that’s not a page 18 story. That’s not a “see more in section B” situation. That’s front-page news. Period.

To sum up: An estimated 5 million people protested in 50 states but the stories were deliberately relegated to the back of most major newspapers.

I feel Britain and France can't tell their awful husband they're leaving him to his face because he might blow up, and they haven't anywhere sorted to stay yet, but they're squirreling money away and putting things in a bag.

So, the meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy went about as well as could be expected then. Trump has the best diplomatic skills, just beautiful skills. Ask anyone.

I can probably do workarounds, but basically it'll mean I'll still need a Windows machine (or maybe Mac) somewhere in the chain to properly maintain control of my Dropbox storage, or some other kludgy workaround. I'm VERY surprised Dropbox aren't currently offering a full-featured Linux client.

Only one thing. As my goal with Linux is the possible replacement of my Windows work environment, I've hit a snag with Dropbox. It's my main Cloud storage, and the Linux desktop app doesn't allow online-only storage. You can do selective sync, but that hides the folders you don't sync.

Just got my Linux box up and running today. Very easy - created a boot USB for Linux Mint on my Windows machine, used it to wipe the disk and install on another laptop. Everything's up and running fine, and looking pretty good.

I'm also giving MeWe another whirl - I like its Facebook-like features, rather than BlueSky which is more Twitterlicious (I was never a Tweeter). You can find me there as "Sarah Newton" (@sarahnewton.29) - it would be lovely to use that more! <3

I'm keeping my Mac for AV work, and my PCs running for now for compatibility and safety. But my medium-term goal is to migrate my PC working to Linux - it's word-crunching and modest graphix, so a stable, non-bloated, low-cost yet rapid Linux environment could be the ticket. Here goes nothing... 😉

Waiting for a cheapo PC to arrive today to set up my first Linux box in more than 20 years. I've been getting irritated by all the recent TechBro enshittification, and a bricking of a laptop by a Windows update and all the AI slop that's being forced on us finally drove me to take steps.

The past few weeks' events in the US and elsewhere have got me seriously thinking about my digital presence, the machines and software I use and the services I subscribe to. It's beginning to think that relying 100% on US techbro services is looking like an increasingly bad idea.

Strange, too. Waiting to hear more about this. It sounds terrible.

Yep. And I never used Twitter precisely because it was impossible to say anything of substance. I've no idea why there's this fetishization of superficiality, it just encourages skimming and short attention spans. I guess Facebook will have a stranglehold until someone provides a viable alternative.

So, this short character restriction thing on Blue Sky is hella irritating. Are we really just posting pithy sound bites here, and nothing of substance? Hmm... 🙄
