UPDATE: In a reversal of last week's statement, 21A is now ceasing operations entirely. Sounds like that excess capacity was simply too much to bear. I was chasing this story, credit to @justinkendall.bsky.social @brewbound.com for beating me to it fair and square!
Notable/Quotable 🗣️ ‘We Had No Path to Profitability’ – RNDC CEO Bob Hendrickson announcing the company’s retreat from California. Dave Infante, who publishes the Fingers newsletter, shared a partial video of Hendrickson’s announcement of the exit. Infante was also 1st to publish confirmation of the news on the exit for VinePair. In the 67-second clip, Hendrickson said RNDC “tried everything in their means to either do a merger, an acquisition, attract suppliers, and do what we could to remain solvent in California, and we couldn't find a path.” Hendrickson added that the company is working with affected California employees, as well as supplier partners over the next 90 days to achieve a “soft landing for their new homes.” Watch the clip here.
Always a treat to make the @brewbound.com newsletter given how hard my colleagues there (@jessicainfante.bsky.social @justinkendall.bsky.social & Zoe Licata) work and how much I depend on their reporting in my own coverage.
Joined the @brewbound.com podcast alongside my pal Chris Shepard of Beer Marketer's Insights to chat with @justinkendall.bsky.social, @jessicainfante.bsky.social, and Zoe Licata about the brewing industry's past 12 months. Tune in!
