I’m grateful that this funding will be restored to the communities it rightfully belongs to, including right here in Senate District 5.
While I’m furious that House Republicans put us in this position in the first place, I appreciate that Attorney General Nessel has made it clear that their actions are not just unethical and callous but also illegal.
The people of Michigan deserve leaders who have their best interests at heart and stay true to their word.
GOP House Speaker Matt Hall has proven to do just the opposite, attempting to rob my constituents of the resources they were promised from the state with bicameral, bipartisan agreement.

Michigan House Republicans consider fixing Inkster’s Community Center roof to be “waste,” “fraud,” and “abuse,” so they clawed back the funding Inkster was set to receive to fix the roof. This is what happened last night at the Dozier community center. Inkster’s mayor and residents are devastated.

In passing this bill, we’re giving Michigan House Republicans another chance to fix their mistake, redeem themselves to outraged Michiganders and, more importantly, to do the right thing.
Every Republican who voted for this and every Republican who supports this questionably legal political tactic should hang their head in shame.
Thankfully, yesterday, five Senate Republicans joined all Senate Democrats in passing a bill that reinstates this funding.
Mr. President, my Republican colleagues never seem to miss an opportunity to lecture women on how they should handle their pregnancies, but when the opportunity arises to HELP KIDS and their parents, they rip the help away.

Kids-TALK’s comprehensive services include forensic interviewing, child and family advocacy, emotional support, specialized medical evaluations, trauma-informed, and evidence-based therapy.
Kids-TALK serves children through 17 years, and their non-offending family members, who have been the victims of child abuse, neglect, or have witnessed violent crimes.

This week, I visited Starfish Family Services along with Senator Dayna Polehanki. Their team is doing incredible work, serving nearly a thousand little ones across 14 early-childhood centers and running mental health clinics that support families from birth to adulthood.
