Help with #medieval #palaeography please! A 1497 purchase of a mort cloth by the Edinburgh Hammermen included three score ‘so[ri]nis’? Soriws? Note the ‘ri’ carrot glyph as in ‘w[ri]ttin’ several lines above.

#medieval #palaeography help please! The Edinburgh Hammermen (1497) no ‘gathering’ of dues one week, due to the distribution (scalyne) of the communion Host (ost - Eucharist). It appears to say ‘from [something?]’. Any ideas? Perhaps a vessel, or maybe a time of the week? Apologies: poor photos!

Rare public display for Mary Queen of Scots' final letter The letter was written in the cell where Mary had been imprisoned for 19 years, just hours before she was executed.

'Mary tells her brother-in-law, King Henri III of France, that she is "to be executed like a criminal at eight in the morning". The manuscript will be on show at Perth Museum for three months.'

Thank you - that one seems to be the consensus! The superscript glyph looks like an ‘r’, so that must be it? Thank you!

Thank you - good to know you’re seeing a superscript ‘r’ as well… Merraman is a possibility!

It does look like an ‘m’ with a superscript ‘r’, doesn’t it?

h/t @threadinburgh.scot for flagging up this new release about the medieval coal mine beneath the Forth. One day during some volunteer work at Culross Palace garden, we trudged out at low tide to see what we could see. It's still there, after all these hundreds of years.
