Illustrations magazine
Someone asked where the 3D was. So I rendered the scenes again, without 3D... 🙂
Fun fact 1: Andy Warhol combined photographs with line drawings in his screen prints in the 1980s. The photos and lines did not line up perfectly. I use that technique here as well.
What do you think? These illustrations mix 2D and 3D. A bit of chaos, but the whole thing remains easy to read-you just have to dive in.
They were made for a magazine.
Fun fact 2: Do you know catchpenny prints? Those cheap, sloppily printed and colored prints of yesteryear. Before 1850, they were wood prints-a stiff technique with clumped ink and coarse areas of color. I like that ragged effect, so you see that here.

🇳🇱 LAATSTE WEEK!
Aanstaande dinsdag is de laatste kans om de overzichtsexpositie van illustrator Henk Stolker te bezoeken in Museum Insel Hombroich, Neuss, Duitsland.
Er verwendet 3D-Software, um komplexe Kompositionen zu konstruieren, die er dann in geschichtete und stilisierte Bilder umwandelt. Auf diese Weise kann er realistische Formen abstrahieren und räumliche Tiefe in seinem charakteristischen Illustrationsstil erzeugen.

3/ Heb jij al een besluit genomen over je oude tekeningen?
2/ Ik weet ondertussen dat er toch nooit een Henk Stolker Museum zal komen, dat is okay. Maar ja, als ik wel mogelijkheid had gehad om alles te bewaren, dan had ik dat toch wel gewild. Alles ergens op een grote zolder.
Nou ja, dat zijn zo de consequenties van als je oud werk wegdoet.
Ik heb oude tekeningen van mij gegegooid. Ik heb er een beetje spijt van.
Als ik in een museum sta, dan kijk ik ook graag naar het jeugdwerk van de kunstenaar. Hoe is hij/zij begonnen, kun je iets van het latere werk erin zien? Bij mij kan dat dus niet meer, omdat het weg is. 1/

🇬🇧 Since 2005, I have been drawing exhibits for NEMO Science Center Amsterdam, interactive setups for scientific experiments.
Each drawing must be clear in small format and in black and white.
By now I have drawn more than 80 exhibits. That's quite a few!
