I have wanted to write about this very thought many times β how Hollywood constantly tells us that the world can be saved by one man punching another man in the face.
The quote is from an excellent interview with @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social β pls forgive my inept attempt at posting it. Link in reply

You know, I get the rage⦠But anyone who has or had an elderly loved one (or is one) has seen this type of rash or wounds and seeing it described as evil or gross or decomposing ⦠It is hurtful, tbh. There is no reason to lose our humanity and compassion because others lack compassion.

It's fractal. Do you disrupt domination & supremacy patterns wherever you find them (even, maybe especially) in your own heart/mind? Do you strengthen mutuality & interdependence wherever you can? The little moments build strength, wisdsom, & pattern recognition for the bigger ones, in my experience

Sunrise sending beams of light through pillowed clouds this morning in yucatan
Somehow the world, the present moment, and the potential for awakening in us all is still unfathomably, achingly beautifulβ¦
no matter all our attempts to pollute, attack, and annihilate it
There is something indestructible in the heart of reality, always waiting for us to turn towards it

Don't miss this episode. @matthewdtaylor.bsky.social discusses how Trump's charismatic Christian supporters/influencers' literal demonization of anyone they think stands in the way of their power, including immigrants, anti-ICE protesters.

The solution isn't conquering natureβit's listening to it. The future belongs to those who partner with the planet, not those who try to dominate it. The hunter becomes the hunted when they forget they live in the forest. π±

But how painfully I learned that being guided by the science was not part a priority for most decision makers. Sure, they might 'listen' to the science, but they still make decisions grounded in daily politics and in many places, climate change is not part of those daily politics.

Seeing a lot of discussion about life as a creative after age 30, and I can say with confidence that I didn't truly find myself as a writer until a few years ago, after age 40. I couldn't have tackled what I'm writing now at a younger age--I wasn't ready.

Trans ppl are at the eye of the fascist storm in the US & the UK. The number of Americans moving to what they hope are sanctuary cities is huge. In fact whole families are moving with their trans children. A similar exodus is happening from the UK to Ireland & again itβs not individuals, its ,,, [1]

Should I worry about how much water my AI chatbot conversations are using?
As AI advances at rapid rates, concerns are growing over the vast amount of water it is using. Harriette Boucher takes a look at how peopleβs AI usage is consuming water, and whether or not it is a pr...
βa mid-sized data centre will consume as much water as a small town, and a larger one (...) will use as much as a city of 50,000 people.β
Behind all the AI greenwashing, thereβs a very real story of water being quietly drained from the places people and ecosystems depend on.

A racist event or incident happens that affects Black people
Black people are then policed about our reaction to it
Given all kinds of excuses and reasons why itβs not a big deal
Narrative becomes about Black sensitivity and identity politics
Weβre then lectured on how to react to dehumanization

Yes! Language is such a limited representation of reality that it is insanity to think models based on language can come close to anything like consciousness or sentience. Or that the things these models spit out are in any way creative. The scariest part is that so many barely feel the difference.
