It's pretty much what I would expect from a 1940s recipe. A lot of desserts from then (and earlier) came out of nursery food so textures and flavours tended to be simpler. I'd make it with a sugar syrup meringue so the eggs are cooked and maybe a biscuit/cookie for some textural difference.

One thing social media has taught me (though I have definitely experienced it in other media too): a lot of people, even quite smart people, are worryingly bad at reading comprehension. For instance: many have trouble distinguishing between someone *describing* a thing and *advocating* that thing.

I find it very telling that the "community group" is happy there may be no more Mighty Hoopla or City Splash but excited to bring back the Lambeth Country Show "as it used to be"

There's a key distinction here that's missed in the headline, they are banning political parties, individual politicians are still able to attend in a personal capacity. I've seen the "banning people isn't very inclusive" argument used in the right and misleading headlines like this don't help!
