The Anglican Church was blackmailed into reinstating the cathedral, instead of a being able to build a new within budget design fit for modern day worship. The current cathedral is majorly hindered by huge columns and was never a good space for other activities - unlike the cardboard cathedral

Excerpt from power bill showing payment of $59 for power used from the grid and $68 payback for solar power produced for the grid

This is my own personal energy record: with the extra solar panels weโ€™ve installed (total 20) December 2025 is the first time Iโ€™ve been paid more for the power weโ€™ve produced than the power we used from the grid - despite the shitty payback rate

If it only costs $50k and thereโ€™s 30k of us participating weโ€™d each only need to pay a couple of bucks to fund it โ€ฆ

My submission on the Social Security Amendment Bill, as a thread 1/4

I strongly oppose this Bill. There is ample overseas and domestic evidence that increasing sanctions not only does not work as far as getting people off welfare and into work goes, it also costs more than it saves.

I am writing to submit my opposition to the Regulatory Standards Bill.

Versions of this Bill have been proposed a number of times over the last 20 years and previous versions were rebuffed due to the challenges they made to parliamentary sovereignty. These concerns remain with the current version of this Bill. It is worth noting that David Seymourโ€™s Ministry of Regulation has noted that the Bill does not mention Te Tiriti. This is a huge omission which means that there is no provision in the Bill for how the Crown will meet its Treaty obligations.

This Bill reduces the governmentโ€™s ability to ensure environmental protections and would give priority to property rights over things like environmental standards. Furthermore, in establishing a Regulatory Standards Board the Bill would remove the role of the courts to consider complaints about existing regulations. This Bill would embed a worldview in the heart of Aotearoaโ€™s constitutional framework which would limit legislative flexibility, executive decision-making and judicial interpretation.

Good regulation is essential for a safe and thriving Aotearoa. This Bill would limit governmentโ€™s right to make rules that are based on the interests of all New Zealanders.

I urge you to dismiss this Bill.

โ€˜Vice signallingโ€™ could describe the current NZ governmentโ€™s bludgeoning approach to policy: eg always use English names first, enable te Tiriti to be undermined & ignore the growing social unrest and polarisation, cut social science & humanities research, end pedestrian/cycle ways & smoking bans.

the end of Marsden funding to social sciences and humanities without alternatives is blunt and counter productive. Governments need to invest in understanding people and communities -it is crucial to social cohesion & imagining and creating new futures and new opportunities

And now the cuts to National Library and Archives. Both vital institutions in retaining our history and growing literacy in Aotearoa. Almost as if this government does not want us to be informed and literate.
