I finished my reread of book 6 yesterday and I really do love it - lots of work to do but the romance I wanted to execute properly is there. Crazy to think to get better at writing you do indeed just have to keep writing.

While I'm revising, I started what I'm calling the 3-chapter Project which is essentially just me making notes for the first three chapters of every book I start.

It's been a really helpful way of picking apart how these work or not and how I can apply it to my own draft!

The cover of Kit & Basie by Tess Carletta

An illustration of the main characters from Kit and Basie. Two men sitting on a bench against a background of greenery -- sunflowers, tall grass, a willow tree, etc. The first man, Basie, is half-mexican and half-white. He has curly brown hair and is wearing a green plaid flannel, work pants, and boots. The second man, Kit, is pale skinned, freckled, and redheaded. He wears a white button down, black pants, and dress shoes. Basie has one foot up and is holding Kit's arm, head on his shoulder. They're both smiling.

a hardcover book form of E.M. Anderson's The Keeper of Lonely Spirits surrounded by text with arrows pointing at the book: Gardening: cheaper than therapy and you get tomatoes; grump x sunshine; found family; "no chance, no way, I won't say I'm in love :music note emoji:"; elderly protag; cursed immortal who just wants to die; vengeful spirit; "I'm fine" but none of them are fine

a post from E.M. Anderson with a one-star review, reading, "Zero (point) five stars. everyone is gay, the ghosts have no corporeal form, and the author is obsessed with death and grief. the immortal MC doesn't even look like a hot 25-year-old! I was promised a COMFORT READ but this is MISERY. also what's with all the waistcoats." below the review is a partial aesthetic for The Keeper of Lonely Spirits, with images of faded flowers, a cottage on a hill, an antique diary, yellow flowers, tombstones, and a mortuary statue of someone kissing the deceased's forehead. a textbox reads, "You get used to it" and "I hope I never get used to being alone." another textbox reads, "That's what life is. You lose people you love and you love more people and you lose them too and you" [text cuts off].

The Keeper of Lonely Spirits: an old man cursed with immortality hunts ghosts rather than making mortal friends who will die one day. when an Ohio town beset by a vengeful spirit adopts him as their own, he must decide: leave to preserve his heart, or stay to save their lives? a QR code in the lower right corner goes to the goodreads page. text is in a pale yellow textbox against an aesthetic with faded flowers, an antique diary, a lonely cottage, headstones, mortuary statues, sunlight through trees, and candles.

Advanced level of wearing pajamas includes wearing 2-3 versions of pajama a day. Important to at least have a pajama that is more comfier and lighter than initial pajama for late night to transition to sleep.

THIS!! For anyone who's read my HIGMA post, you'll know I firmly believe getting an agent is a right time, right place mystical alignment of the cosmos (also may require ritual sacrifice of mythical creatures). Even a perfect query & amazing manuscript needs luck to land in the right inbox.

A recent 5-star fantasy read: The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett - I didn't know how badly I wanted a Sherlock Holmes mystery in a deadly and dangerous world that's been lovingly crafted before I read this.

Can You Write a Book That Speaks to This Terrible Time? Nah. You can't ever write a book that speaks to a particular moment in history. Sorry. This is mostly due to the timescales of writing and publishing. No...

Can you write a book on purpose that speaks to this terrible historical moment? (Nope. Can't do it.)

But you *DO* have to think about what your book means now, and how that meaning changed when the world changed.

Anora was so good, the ending pretty perfect, but please in 2024...direct your actors to use a game controller correctly, it's so distracting. Video games are not that niche anymore 😭 For sure some of the worst fake gaming I've seen in a movie in a long time lmao

Dragon Age Veilguard is probably going to be my very biased GOTY and then I'll have a more objective GOTY. (But also objectively it's a great game)

Hey I have a journal prompt if you'd like it

open a blank page. title it "100 things I would like to begin."

start writing, don't stop, don't judge your ideas, repeated ideas are okay, don't stop until 100

don't be mean if you have wanted to start some of these for years

now put it away; done
