The justification works only if an artist has released ONE song.
With over 200 songs on the platform, in 2025 they've stolen ~60,000 streams owed to me.
You might say, "remove your tracks from Spotify."
Some money is better than none, but from 2026 onward, I've stopped distributing my music there.
In April 2024, Spotify implemented a new scheme: songs with less than 1k streams per year would no longer receive royalties.
The data for 2025 was just released via Luminate, and 88% of songs have been demonetized.
Read it again: 88% of songs on Spotify have been demonetized.
New year resolutions are doomed to fail. If you want to make your life better in some way, DON'T WAIT until January. It's just an excuse for procrastination.
That said, Allister (or anyone reading), don't give up on something if you feel it's important. Should I get my pompoms to cheer you on? 😅

Despite our advances as a species, it often appears we've regressed in equal parts. It's difficult not to become cynical while our world unravels, in contempt of our best intentions. Across nine pieces, Altus explores the forces that drive humanity's darkest behaviours — themes of division, burgeoning animosity, and, most importantly, how fear can control us. Those familiar with Altus over the past 25 years know the music often carries a strong affinity toward orchestral instruments. Sometimes they emerge ornamentally; other times they take centre stage. Symphony for the Sullen is the latter. It is a culmination of passion for contemporary classical and film soundtracks — music that has brought Altus profound inspiration. The music of Altus often imbues a melancholic ache of the forlorn intertwined with beauty. Symphony for the Sullen bears that hallmark, providing an experience that is alluring yet heartrending.

We are all the same human beings sharing this small planet. We all happen to have been born here at this time in the long history of humankind. At most, we have a life span of about a hundred years. This is but a blip in the great age of our planet. What matters most is what we do with our short life. If we live our life divorced from our shared humanity, embroiled in discord and division, and causing harm, what a waste of our precious life! If we choose to live our life caring for others—our human family and fragile planet—we will have made our life meaningful. So, when the final day comes, we will look back without regret and feel that our life on this earth has been worthwhile.
