The House of Lords Digital & Communications Committee just published their report on AI, copyright & the creative industries, and their conclusions could not be clearer.
🧵 1/5
- AI training isn’t ‘learning’ and shouldn’t be treated as such
The House of Lords has been absolutely consistent on this, and they are totally right. Will the government listen?

New LEGO set for our times
Time series plot depicting predicted Nino 3.4 region ocean temperature anomalies from the latest (Mar 2026) ECMWF ensemble. It depicts an extremely rapid rise in such temperatures, from modest negative anomalies to strong positive anomalies, by mid-summer 2026--indicative of a transition from weak-moderate La Nina conditions to moderate-strong El Nino conditions over just a few months.
Whew.
All signs are increasingly pointing to a significant, if not strong to very strong, El Niño event. I'll have more to say in coming weeks & months, but for now I'll just say that this is increasingly likely to become a major regional-to-global climate driver in 2026-2027.
Jennifer would not say she was lost, exactly. She knew exactly where she was; a nondescript length of concrete hallway deep under the ground. The only issue was she had no idea how she’d gotten there, or how it connected to anything else. “This is so stupid. I bet other schools only have like, one or two underground complexes, at most. And a crypt, of course. Gotta have a crypt. Where the hell did they go? Probably forgot what they were doing and are off quoting things in stupid British accents again. Ooh, I’ve got a floppy disc in my brain filled entirely with Star War. Live long and… whatever the other thing. You’d think being a big-time monster fightboy, he’d learn something useful, instead of just a bunch of movie cliches.” She paused, considering her past misadventures with the group. “It’s right behind me, isn’t it.” (It is, in fact, right behind her)
my favourite part of doing must be tuesday revised was writing the dumb little short story at the front
and in the full version, it's illustrated
If you haven’t seen it yet, I’ve co-designed the official Godzilla RPG alongside @markalatham.bsky.social and the legendary Jervis Johnson.

According to President Zelenskyy, countries in the Middle East fired about 800 patriot missiles in just three days — more than Ukraine has had during the entire war.
Huge Star Trek shot update! Fixed all sorts of issues, added some cool VFX to the scrubbing action, and fixed the lighting angles. High-sample render, working on the SFX now! Enjoy, and suggestions are welcome!
it say nom nom nom. that's the joke
not many people know this but the space shuttle horizontal situation entry display is the origin of "nom nom nom"
I'd like to take this excellent point in a slightly different direction as “War is a matter of vital importance to the state; the province of life or death; the road to survival or ruin.” Imagine what happens when what @disabilitystor1.bsky.social describes works its way up the chain of command. 1/
Optical illusion of a woman bent over some papers. Her sunglasses are pushed up and she is wearing a hair band so the top of her head looks exactly like a Muppet face
Sorry I know the world is in a terrible fix but I've been laughing at this for ten minutes now

kind of forgetting what it was like when every single piece of news didn’t make me angry
Just in time to get launched into the ram crisis, the storage crisis, the CPU crisis, did I miss any crises?
Amid Iran chaos, US treasury issues 30-day waiver to let Indian refiners buy Russian oil One beneficiary of the chaos in the Persian Gulf appears to be Russia, since the US treasury secretary, Scott Bessent, just announced that the US has issued a temporary 30-day waiver “to allow Indian refiners to purchase Russian oil.” “This deliberately short-term measure will not provide significant financial benefit to the Russian government as it only authorizes transactions involving oil already stranded at sea,” Bessent added. The treasury secretary said the “stop-gap measure” was implemented in response to what he called “Iran’s attempt to take global energy hostage”.
Congratulations to the US, who in their complete inability and unwillingness to consider the consequences of their own actions just gifted Russia a massive pay day just so they could flex muscles in the Middle East
A grassy field leafing to a rise in the distance. On the brow is a large white disc of a moon.
A tarmac path through a park. There is a pylon and wires crossing and many trees in the background. Just poking over the trees is a large white disc moon
Morning. A chilly morning for a run but a perfect opportunity to howl at the moon.
There's something wonderful about holding the book you've worked on for so long - and this one is very special indeed! Many thanks to the team @discoverkelpies.bsky.social for bringing it to life - pre-orders are open now, and it's out on the 19th!

Would be shiny to get firefly back. Absolutely not to Whedon though. He's got so many accusations of toxic behaviour that's a complete non starter.

If you're doomscrolling, guess what? So far there are 51 kākāpō chicks hatched and thriving this season, the same number of birds as we had in TOTAL in the 90s! Only one chick has died and there are still fertile eggs waiting to hatch!
Joining in with bird books
A parody inspired by Fantastic Mr Fox. A cartoon Goose with an orange neckerchief flies across a bright blue background, scattering grain from a pouch tied around its belly. The title reads RSPB Fantastic Mr Goose, with a cheeky note below saying it is “NOT illustrated by Quentin Blake”.
Title slide reading “Book covers but we added birds.” Smaller text notes "created by RSPB staff". A Gull wearing red reading glasses peers over an open book. The book is a bird-themed parody titled The Gull Who Played With Fire, with playful review quotes like “Brilliant”, “Talon-biting stuff”, and “A must-read”.
It’s #WorldBookDay!
Admittedly, not a particularly bird-related day.
Don’t worry. We’ve fixed that by asking RSPB staff to redesign their favourite book covers… with birds. 📚
Closing Azeri and/or Georgian, Armenian airspace would be a huge blow to European and Asian travel economies… it’s really quite the bottleneck between long-haul Europe and Asian air routes now.
No idea why I've seen this about eight times now. But if anyone is wondering technically "data" is plural and the singular is "datum" but in practice data is generally used as singular. If I think I'll get pulled up on it, I just use "dataset" instead.

It took me all day, but I've synthesised all of the resources we used on the Decolonising the British Empire Exhibition of 1938 through Augmented Reality Narratives research project.
