Lanterns | Official Teaser | HBO Max YouTube video by HBO Max

Oh dear, the way the new HBO Lanterns show could go either very right or very wrong (I refuse to judge a show on first teaser alone since the One Piece live action series, its first teaser showed nothing of how awesome the show turned out to be). www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1jc...

okay, Ill bite.
What do you think the point of reading for and writing a literature review is? The process of reading and writing is crucial for THINKING. Your ideas are shaped by all of this, offloading it to gAI, no matter how "good" you think gAI is at it defeats the purpose entirely.

Today I get to be a mentor in an accessibility game jam AND see the Greens win an election over Reform and Labour, I think this is a Friday that calls for celebratory cake.

Academia.edu - Find Research Papers, Topics, Researchers Academia.edu is the platform to share, find, and explore 50 Million research papers. Join us to accelerate your research needs & academic interests.

I don't know how many years late I am to the party but today I logged into my academia.edu account for the first time in 8172 years and realised they had 1. added genAI, 2. automatically enabled it to take my papers to feed it. I deleted the papers and the account faster than I can eat a crepe.

This is/was utterly predictable.

Remote work was one of the biggest egalitarian things to happen to work in my lifetime, so obviously the bosses were never going to stand for it

My flavour sticking to routines and predictability is that I've been moving from one country to another on my own since I was 17 no problem, but if my usually hermit roommate isn't home at a time she usually is, my brain starts making up catastrophic scenarios for virtually no reason.

You don’t need Disney-level resources and drawing skills to create animation.

People have made classics with sand and a source of light. With magazine clippings, or their own bodies animated via stop motion. There’s no barrier to entry, as we explore: animationobsessive.substack.com/p/sand-and-a...

I still have my viva copy of the thesis, that's more than enough for the title! And yes, framing is the plan 😎

"What makes you say that?" and "we're not testing you, we're testing the game".

This is what we mean when we say the AI tools currently permeating our everyday lives are unethical and that it is not possible to make them ethical unless you re-build them from scratch. It's not just the stealing, it's the human cost.

The Handmaiden remains my favourite so far in Park's filmography, but I haven't seen them all and now Decision to Leave is next on my list.

The cinematography was gorgeous, the whole cast knocked it out of the park with their appropriate over-the-top performances, and the web of circumstances trapping all the characters in this cycle of absurd mutually-assured destruction is palpable even in the silliest or most heart-warming moments.

2026 is the year I start returning more consistently to the cinema, and No Other Choice was great one to start with. Park Chan-wook delivered something phenomenal again. Loved the fever-dream-like editing and Lee Byung-Hun's wonderfully versatile performance.

my brain: completely forgets my address when the pharmacist asks me where i live to verify my identity

Only way to make them ethical is to tear them down and rebuild them in a way that is so fundamentally different it will be a different tech entirely.

I assume they are talking about AI like ChatGPT, Sora, Midjourney etc (not AI used for enemy behaviour, proc gen etc) - except those models are, by nature, fundamentally unethical. You cannot train them on your own data due to the sheer amount needed. Exploitation is literally baked into them.

I'll be honest, tiny UI text aside, I was not expecting Elden Ring to run this well on Steam Deck.

The biggest realisation I've had as a gamer since I started working as a user researcher is how much I enjoy crafting mechanics and grinding like crazy for resources to do so.

Extraction shooters still elude me but maybe one day I will evolve again (pls don't say "Arc Raiders" I KNOW)
