It was -4 Celsius, so maybe not quite as cold as you’re thinking. Still not warm though! I don’t run outside below -10, and about -2 to -9 is my “I could do it, I guess, not that I really want to” zone.
I also saw a large owl, which was cool, but it swooped over my head and settled in a tree ahead of me, and I changed course. Owls can be territorial and I was not about to fight a bird of prey at 8 am.
I was grumpy for half a dozen small reasons yesterday, and I woke up knowing I needed a fresh-air run. I didn’t *want* to go running when it was still -4, but I did it, and it made me feel much better, and it’s annoying how that works.

I just finished season 1 and enjoyed it. And I can’t believe I found out about it on a year-end list 10 months after it came out.
Even Netflix is bad at this sometimes. I’ve watched almost all their basketball documentaries, but just a few weeks ago I found out the show Running Point exists, nearly a year after it came out. It should have been the easiest “hey you might like this” algorithm suggestion ever.

My favourite parts of the writing process, in order:
1. Revising a finished draft
2. Daydreaming and taking random notes as an idea develops into a plot
3. Actually writing the dang first draft
I’m in the dreamy (literally) stage of a new book project where a funny scene popped into my head at 2 am. A more ambitious writer might have hopped out of bed right then, but I trusted it would still be there for me in the morning. (It was.)
I'm wary of fellow Canadians who get too proud about not being American, because they're usually willing to gloss over this country's own issues by saying "at least we're not the US."
The snowplow driver saw me at the end of my driveway this morning and lifted the plow blade as they passed my house, to avoid filling in everything I’d just shovelled. Bless them for this small kindness.
