my impression was she was trying very hard to make him look bad while not communicating to me why. It seemed she was refusing to speak his language or get the joke, which again could be justified but I didn’t see the justification, so it seemed mean. Could be the editor, not the journo, of course

I think I‘ve heard that there’s a preferred style where you write “November 12” no matter how it’s pronounced. I’d have got that from US study materials. But because I’m not trying to work in the US I haven’t paid enough attention to US style to be confident
