What an amazing book!

It’s very intense, and so well done. A fantastic duology.

I felt the same way! This book felt more intense, with Max in Germany and surrounded by Nazis. And yes, the similarities made me want to weep.

I’ve read many WWII books, but this one is outstandingly unique. The storytelling is superb, and its heart shines through. Brilliant, compelling, suspenseful, heartbreaking, and very VERY timely. Well done, @adamgidwitz.bsky.social

It beautifully ties together a child’s evacuation from a wildfire and her mother’s escape from a flood as a child in Viet Nam.
