I have an itch page for my latest project now! now I can put #devlog there woohoo xytheria.itch.io/wackyquarium
(also crunching website stuff before GDC sucks :< )
#gamedev #indiedev #itchio
this looks so adorable! adding to my play later list
Excited to be attending #GDC2026 with the wonderful folks at Different Games Collective, will definitely make the most of connecting with people and showing my prototype! here's a bit of what I've been up to lately

"design for throw-away-ability, because you will"
hmm, after watching the #StardewValley retrospective...are you really making a game if you haven't thrown out half the game in the middle of the project and redesigned it bc it wasn't fun?
anyone running a #gamedev program should try to add that in the curriculum, its pretty important imo
this is awesome, I love the idea and the visuals!
it's #ScreenshotSaturday! currently I'm working on a prototype for an aquarium-themed city builder game. please excuse the ugliness, visual update coming soon
yesterday I added a slider to show building efficiency. up next - add quests that trigger every few turns, and then updating visuals / UX
I am naming them Xylem ^^ but maybe i will change if I think of something better :o
gonna try and post more updates as GDC nears! recently I had a bunch of projects in flight but nothing completed, so I didn't post anything. :( but it's probably better to post stuff even when unfinished and a bit ugly
xylem chuckling at how many projects I'm doing at once #oc #art #animation
what have I been up to lately?
1. finishing game prototype for wacky-quarium
2. game dev meetups to keep momentum
3. finding editors for my comic
4. finishing up my new ttrpg character
5. selling old clothes to make some $
This is beyond what I remember, I’d link you an article if I had one handy. I think tokens are more like random hashes to track and end sessions where a user is logged in, so the user doesn’t have to keep their password anywhere client-side
ah yeah, it happens
(meaning wherever you’re storing a hashed password currently, also encrypt it)
(not an expert) ideally you could use something like token-based authentication, where the server holds encrypted hashed passwords and delivers the user a token on when logging in, and token is used for auth checks.
it can be a lot to add so just adding encryption to your workflow would help!
Things I'd wanna change if I came back:
- there's supposed to be themes of alienation and persevering in nihilism - didn't have time for puzzles and events to convey that well
- tweak characters to be more thematic
- change setting?
- art and sound, go even more minimal. would love collaborators!
Takeaways from the game itself:
- "creepy" horror elements are dampened by repetition: bc of time loop, this is more an uncomfortable mystery game than a horror game.
- sound is so important. feedback on button press = huge
- puzzles are story, and you must craft them to tell the story you want
Some takeaways from the jam experience:
- Solo dev sucks. But the theme fit perfectly and I've had the idea baking in my head a while, just had to give it a try
- RPGMaker is a mixed bag when it comes to saving time. Dialogue? wow easy. Debugging plugins? oof
- Having a space to work helps so much!
This past week I worked on a little narrative horror game for #GlobalGameJam!
link to play: xytheria.itch.io/face-time
wanted to do something inspired by Faith: The Unholy Trinity and time-loops and RPG Maker horror.

love your pixel art style, awesome work!
they're so cute! I adore the little flame 🔥
A round, chubby dragon with little horns and spikes.
Meet the Xytheria Project mascot! It's a faerie dragon, made of gummy candy. One of my secret projects might involve them as a main character...
I'm still thinking of a name, any suggestions? All kinds of names welcome.

𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘯 2026? yeah, it scares me too. I wish I'd felt more ready to start an account back when social platforms were a friendlier place for digital content...but I didn't. We gotta start somewhere, and I guess I'm starting now ^^
Hello world! Welcome to the Xytheria Project, a silly name to group together creative things I want to do. I'll post updates to game dev things I'm working on and art that I want to share. (and more secret projects in the works!)
Hoping to connect with more creative people on here 💙
