I’m not upset by other people’s food choices, Jason. I certainly try not to be preachy about it. I used to enjoy a Sunday roast and BBQ back in our carnivore days but I can honestly say the one thing I miss is the smell of grilling bacon. Now I’m trying to cut out fish and eggs, too. It’s tough.

I suppose so, but for people in the regions and Scotland, for example, it is more accessible. These days more things have been shifted out of the capital, which is a good thing even though I live close but to the south, so the trip to Brum is not easy. The M25 ensures that.

We did go to the autumn Discover Dogs show at ExCel once but didn’t like it, even though it was closer to us and we could park in the centre, being part of the volunteer group. It was very noisy and we had to negotiate south London traffic in our campervan, which was not fun.

Great capture, Janet. We visited Freeport many years ago while in Maine to see Janet’s brother who was living in Portland. I do remember going to the
LL Bean factory store and buying some clothes but can’t remember what now. This was in the late ‘80s.

The picture shows an impressive gorge landscape, which is the Arribes del Duero Natural Park. This region is located on the border between Spain and Portugal. The Duero flows through the valley, which has cut deep into the granite rock over millions of years, forming steep gorges known as "Arribes". The slopes are covered with Mediterranean vegetation, including juniper, oak and, in the lower areas, often olive and almond trees. In the background, a bridge can be seen spanning the deep gorges, as well as fortifications and retaining walls on the slopes. The area is known as a special protection area for birds, especially griffon vultures, golden eagles and black storks.

It was 1991. I think that Earls Court became too small and there were parking/ travelling issues. Birmingham National Exhibition Centre is a much better venue. It’s near the motorway ring, close to the airport and station.

I didn’t even know they had a motorcycle equivalent of that famed race. My bike-riding son would have his usual “ohh, Dad!!!” heavy sighs, reaction to me saying this. 🙄

My wife watches from the sidelines, left, as judging takes place in the Smooth Fox Terrier class at Crufts annual show in Birmingham six years ago. Several handlers are in the arena in the huge hangars at the NEC exhibition halls in Birmingham where the Kennel Club show takes place.
