I just had virtually the same conversation with my nephew (humanities edition) - he’s graduating college in May and had wanted to go into academia but says it’s totally infeasible with so many departments not taking grad students and funding drying up.

We’re losing an entire generation of scholars.

31/ Ignore the paper traders. There is a MATERIALworld. $200 per barrel oil, where this is heading in months of Iran's chokehold would be an inflationary shockwave that will cause societies to boil & politicians heads to roll.

The weakest people will suffer the most. Again, just as after Ukraine.

the state of israel, like apartheid south africa, like the jim crow south, like nazi germany, has determined that crimes against a certain type of person, no matter how heinous, aren't crimes because the victims are not people. there is no "but them first" defense of israel that can stand up to it

As it runs out of weapons, the Pentagon is expected to ask the White House and Congress in the coming days for as much as $50bn in additional spending for the military.

About the same as the entire USAID budget used to be.

Disgusting.

“They ban the slogans “from the river to the sea” and “globalise the intifada”, and make expressing or publishing them punishable for up to two years in prison if doing so would “menace, harass or offend”.”
