CO2 emission (billions of metric tons) for various sectors of the US economy from 1976 to 2021. Electric power emissions have dropped from a high of ~2.5 BMt in 2006 to ~1.5 BMt in 2021. Transportation emissions have dropped from a high of ~1.9 BMt in 2019 to ~ 1.7 BMt in 2021. Industrial emissions have dropped from a high of ~1.1 BMt in ~1977 to near constant value of ~0.75 BMt through 2021. Residential emissions have dropped from ~0.5 BMt in 1976 to near constant values of ~0.3 BMt through 2021. Commercial emissions have been near constant around ~0.25 BMt from 1976 to 2021.
Renewables are having a positive impact. US CO2 emissions from electric power generation peaked in ~2007, and for transportation in ~2017. Reductions are due to enhanced efficiency, the switch to renewables and electrification of transportation. π§ͺππ‘βοΈπ¨π Source CBO : www.cbo.gov/publication/...
