Hello, i-is this thing on? *balloon pop* *loud cat noise* *cutlery falling to the ground* *glass crash sound effect* *nuclear siren* *gunshot* *Wilhelm scream*
Yeah, very understandable
Fuck yeah, this entire journey feels a lot like the on and off journey I've been on, just waaaaayyyy more compressed, by the end I might be asking you for tips it seems
Linux can be a beast to tame sometimes but I personally think its worth it in the end, you will do mistakes, you might brick your system but with each time you WILL learn and you will get better, I just hope I've been helpful and if wrong I hope more knowledgeable person/s comes and corrects me.
If youre interested in running VR on the machine I believe Ubuntu, Bassite and KDE have that support built in nowadays however I'm not familiar enough to be trusted and should be verified by someone with more time/energy.
I personally use Copyparty for a file server which can utilise those previously stated protocols however setting it up on Linux had me(figuratively) ripping my hair out until I figured it out but when combined with those other protocols it can be used to even mount it as a disk on a different device
Another option for a more standard file server would be something like Samba which is a windows standard that works on Linux but seems to be generally thought of as unsecure, files over SSH, sftp, scp, and others like that. (I'd recommend searching for documentation as I'm not too familiar with em)
When it comes to syncing files between devices Syncthing can be a good solution especially with the Syncthing + Obsidian workaround as you did.
I personally use Debian because I'm more familiar with the architecture, but I believe when it comes to reliability and control Arch might be better.
I have multiple older computers running deb on xfce.
Might understand things wrong. I believe Ubuntu is one of those distros that are quite reliable for Linux beginners to start with although I heard somewhere that they might be selling user info (haven't confirmed it myself just heard it somewhere please verify yourself if its a dealbreaker),
I've seen the posts and wish I could help but formulating a helpful comment that doesn't go on like 500 tangents and loses the plot like an β of the way in would be difficult for me. I'll try to give some thoughts I had tho, trying to be concise. Mind you that I'm still relatively a noob and...

Best part, its compatible with a lot of DEs, not just Plasma
happ brday
I technically fill all those requirements ππ (not sure about entertaining tho lol)
