IMO one of the greatest skills in modern video game design is creating an area that feels like you're legitimately discovering something that wasnt meant to be found. liminal space design? You gotta ride the wave of making it feel like an easteregg without it feeling inconsequential

you would still absolutely want to ratelimit this kind of api endpoint to some degree, its not really a competition / having to use one thing. i was simply surprised that they have been bruteforceable
(having said that, making the strings more complex is ofc totally worth doing too)
i have. but a normal user needs to be able to test like 3 codes at most before they enter it correctly. if you wanna rotate through enough proxies to check every possible string in that order of complexity with 3 checks per IP, you're payng a lot per account

true, handles and identity just dont feel like they matter too much on there. but faking identities also isnt that big of a deal on youtube (it would be interesting to explore why)

domain names as handles are a cool idea! even cooler though would be do somehow not have handles on a social network at all. it would be sick if online identity could be solved in a way that doesnt give you handle-fomo
