Can someone tell me how I’m supposed to interpret 5 major chains filing for bankruptcy this year:
- TGI Fridays
- Party City
- Red Lobster
- The Container Store
- Big Lots
Is this simply an Amazon/Uber effect?
I think designers can also look to the foundations of this thinking in the work of DIA studio

There are things to me that signal some positive scalability and applicable use:
- Foundations for a scalable system of visual elements that can be applied
- Lack of need for licensing rights
- Arguably prompts (or a created system/LLM) can be used to fill in gaps as the design continues to be used
@pentagramdesign.bsky.social showcases the use of Midjourney in their design process.
This was the part that was always going to get lost - the physical craft - but it indicates that the industry is continuing to go forward in partnership with AI rather than against it.
