Finished #REANIMAL the other night.

Exactly as good as I was hoping for. The folks at Tarsier Studios outdid themselves here, providing an excellent evolution on the Little Nightmares formula with some of the best atmosphere and setpieces they’ve ever cooked up.

Couple goals

What does your protagonist value? What do they want to achieve? What are their beliefs and rules? These are the things that help define your character. You threaten them, you threaten the character. You force them to look at themselves and ask “How hard am I willing to fight over this?”

The key to having meaningful stakes in your story isn’t to make them big or world-ending. At a certain point, the scope of a threat can become so large that the audience can’t grasp it.
The key to having meaningful stakes is to make them PERSONAL.

I guess it depends on the type of comedy you’re writing, but honestly it may be a better idea to hold off on the comedy for a bit, to really indicate that it’s a serious threat. One of the most important parts of a comedic character is recognizing when to NOT be funny.

Idk if this helps but the person you’re comparing yourself to likely does/suffers from the same thing. Hell, they may very well be looking at YOU and going “God I’ll never be as good as them.”

There isn’t any kind of requirement, and it depends largely on the bill itself. In simple terms the chapter should be as long as it needs to be to convey all the necessary information without going overboard.
