It’s very telling how the 24hr news cycle transformed these reports from something grim during the Vietnam era, through the spectacle they became during the GWB administration, all the way to the farcical caricature we are seeing today.

growing up i watched this evolve from Desert Storm in 1990, through the Balkan conflicts of the Clinton years and the air strikes in Sudan and Afghanistan, all the way to the Bush Presidency and the salivation over every detail of weapons and logistics in Afghanistan and Iraq.
