Thirteen years ago today... I was in New Brunswick and made an evening trip down to McAdam to see the old station again. NB Southern had an interesting pair of locomotives working the yard in front of the station, along with the battered van used on the "South Job" to St. Stephen.
CN 3135 led train 313 past the grain elevator in Dugald, Manitoba this morning.
Rounding the bend near Fortier, Manitoba, CN 3357 leads the train toward Winnipeg and points east. Feb 15, 2026.

One lonely unit was at the head of this container train this morning at CN Diamond, just west of Winnipeg. Way back, a mile or two, a sister unit helped haul these cans west.

I have quite a few Interconial Railway waybills like this; they are quite attractive compared to modern receipts. This one is for shipping cases of matches (?) for Turnbull & Co. from Saint John to Chatham, NB in March 1883.
I purchased a collection of railway-related paper from the Fredericton area a while ago. I've started going through it and I found this collection of receipts from June 1956 for shipping pulpwood by rail from Harvey, NB to Millinocket, ME to the Great Northern Paper plant there.
I feel very Canadian this morning. My wife and I play the Tim Hortons Hockey Challenge, where you choose 3 players a day and get points if at least one scores. Welll, I won 7 days in a row and now Chrissie gets free coffee for a week. Go me the hockey savant πππ¨π¦
Remembering a lovely sunset some seven and a half years ago, October 18, 2018, with CN 2258 leading a train into the 'Peg along the two-track Rivers subdivision. Thanks to my friend Chris M for the inspiration to dig into the archives.
The freight cars are often the most interesting part of a train. Here we see two coil steel cars rolling west near Winnipeg. They are two parts: the base frame with walled sides, containing giant rolls of thin steel, and a rounded cover to protect them from the elements.

An early morning tram runs south on route 3, about to cross the Danube River en route to the PetrΕΎalka district of Bratislava, Slovakia. The tram is one of 40 Ε koda 30 T five-segment trams built between 2014 and 2024. The line is narrow gauge - "metre gauge" or 1000 mm between rails. Dec. 7, 2025.
When I was driving along what seemed like hundreds of kilometres of gravel back roads in Saskatchewan south of Regina a few weeks ago, I saw many coyotes, always running away from the road as I approached. I managed to grab this photo of one with the long lens.
Seems like every prairie town had one of these. Or two - North and South.
Today many towns are bereft of rails, but the name remains, often the only reminder of the bellowing beasts that once rolled through their town.

122 years old and still in service.
Eighty pound rail was heavy steel back in 1903. Today it's on a back track in Amulet, SK on the Red Coat Road & Rail.

The automated inspection portal at Vivian, Manitoba was inspecting this eastbound container train in great detail on September 22, 2025. These AIP structures capture high resolution images of every rail car that passes through. These images are analyzed and problems can be detected.

Manitobans were plagued with forest fires this summer, and apparently even Americans were complaining about the smoke and how they couldn't put a tariff on it. In the midst of July I photographed this short yard job rolling into the east end of CPKC's Winnipeg yard on a hazy afternoon.
Back in July I rode my bike under the CN bridge in St. Norbert, Manitoba and into the woods for some forest path biking. The bridge crosses the La Salle River and hosts a couple of trains per day on average.
