Another podcast opportunity to hear me chat about Irenaeus. This time I talk a bit more about his most famous doctrine, recapitulation -- the grand narrative of God's salvation plan (and how it may have been influenced by Valentinian teaching).

You must have a good, large screen!
As scholars continue to investigate the historical and theological dimensions of the Council of Nicaea (325), we cannot forget what was at stake for the original contributors of the creed - proper worship.

You sure have taught some amazing classes!
There is a chapter entitled Irenaeus & Origen in Brian Daley's God Visible: Patristic Christology Reconsidered, and I know he deals with the 'rule', but I don't recall if he touches on the question of influence.
Here's the CfP for a volume I'll be coediting with Dr. Naoki Kamimura (Tokyo Gakugei) on _Early Christian Writers in Crisis_. It aims to represent fruitful international collaboration between patristics scholars in Canada & Japan. Abstracts due Feb. 1!
The deadline (Jan. 31) is approaching to submit your abstracts for the 2025 Canadian Society of Patristic Studies, organized by the estimable Dr. Jennifer Otto (Lethbridge). Act now & join us in Toronto this summer! Details here: cspsacep.ca/appel-de-com...
Booked my flight for NAPS today. I'll be there to present on Irenaeus and represent @patristicsearlyxty.bsky.social and McMaster Divinity College.
Is there a better alternative to Academia.edu? One that folks are actually using, I should add.

We'll be chatting next week with Paul Gavrilyuk and Andrew Hofer about their recent publication, The Oxford Handbook of Deification. Look for it on our Youtube channel (and if you have a question you would like us to ask them, pass it along!).
