It's this kind of anecdote that makes me dubious about the notion that Nenshi's leadership is the reason the NDP is unable to close the gap.
It ignores the agency of the electorate, who would rather live in a lie to justify their support of a Smith government.

Americansβ opinions of Canada, Great Britain are lower than ever
Republicans have soured on the two U.S. allies after a year of Trump antagonizing their leaders.
A clear case of Trump (and politicians in general) being a thought leader. He starts demonizing Canada and the UK, and his voters' opinions follow along with him.

I know you're not, because the Italian fans I know are clinically depressed over their team's performance, and they've all priced in missing out a 3rd tournament in a row.

A top Trump administration official has reassured Brussels that Washington remains committed to its trade deal with the European Union, amid mounting fears in Europe and the U.S. that the agreement could unravel.
BREAKING: U.S. launches investigations into top trading partners like the E.U., China and Mexico, a process that is expected to lead to new tariffs.
We are committed to a trade deal. Also we are looking to introduce new tariffs that renege that trade deal.
All in one day's work.

I don't understand where you're going with this.
I'm pointing out that in Trump's mercantilist mindset, a trade surplus is good & a trade deficit is bad. I think that is stupid & shows his ignorance, but regardless - the point here is that by his own logic, he's cutting his nose to spite his face.

France beats Belgium and wins the WC on 2018.
France reaches the final of the 2022 World Cup. Belgium not included because they were eliminated in the group stage.
Indeed, facts no longer matter.

Ok, keep on watching the spreadsheets to inform your opinion, I'll keep watching how they perform on the pitch.
There's nothing that will change my opinion that France was better than Belgium in that 2018-2022 period.

Well I don't think how Belgium performed on the pitch from 2018 to 2022 makes them better than say France during that same stretch of time, and I think the eye test (as in, watching them play and see how far they go in meaningful competitions) is actually more important. YMMV.

FIFA rankings are meaningless. They're only worth taking a look when they create the pots, and even then FIFA messes around with the pot allocation system.
Belgium was ranked #1 from 2018 to 2022, how is that something worth any focus?

Ok, if you define a good team as one that couldn't qualify in 2018 and 2022, and may possibly miss 2026. Have at it. I find how they perform in meaningful games more noteworthy than whatever they do in meaningless nation league games.
