It was a good one. The stupidly expensive pasta (just expensive at half price) helped.
Iโm quaffing some (Sainsburyโs) Sicilian red and Iโm not sure Iโve had a better Italian meal outside of Italy.
Missed this for a while! Tonight was a treat though, @flossieteacake.bsky.social found some half price fancy nduja tortelloni. We had them with an aubergine and tomato sauce to start, then had pork chop with pancetta, leek and kale; spinach with chilli and lemon, sautรฉ potatoes with rosemary.

The main thing - is it not already clear - RFKr Jr is uniquely unqualified to lead the HHS.
All main agencies under his watch - NIH, FDA, CMS - are also headed by incompetent contrarian peddlers of disinformation, conspiracy theories, and pseudoscience.
This will, and already does, cost lives.
If someone you know buys into claims about "genetic optimization" of embryos using polygenic scores of cognition, just send them our 2024 paper on Beethoven & musicality. We wrote it to help communicate limits of individual-level genetic predictions & complexity of links between DNA & behaviour. ๐งช๐
I know we're supposed to reflexively dismiss the loss of any niche subject in the humanities, but this is a big part of why the university exists: so a student who wants to learn Basque can learn Basque. & the reason a school can offer that class is because THEY HAVE A ROMANCE LANGUAGES DEPARTMENT.
