A misty sky over a desert landscape, which glows a blazing orange as the sun begins to rise. At the very centre of the photo is an enormous mountain, which obscures the Sun. A hazy after-image surrounds the mountain as it casts a lengthy shadow onto the atmosphere itself.

Located 190 km away from Cerro Paranal, the Llullaillaco volcano is a regular feature on the horizon seen from our VLT.

Here we see the Sun as it peeks over the volcano, which casts a looming shadow onto the atmosphere itself 😲

It is not just about Astronomy, it is not just about science, it is about our right as humanity to preserve the darkest sky on Earth.

The INNA project close to the most important observatory in the world goes ahead, and today ESO publishes a scientific report on the impacts.

Looking forward to joining the ESO community!

None of this would be possible without the support of my PhD supervisors, colleagues and loved ones. Thank you all, de todo corazón.

After finishing my PhD, I will spend the next four years as an ESO Fellow developing my research on massive runaway stars and the role they play in our Galaxy. In addition, I will work at the Paranal Observatory to support observations and learn about their extraordinary instruments.

Among its instruments are the Very Large Telescope (VLT), the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT)—the largest telescope in the world—and the upcoming Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO), the largest and most sensitive gamma-ray observatory.

New stellar bow shocks and bubbles found around runaway stars Runaway stars with peculiar high velocities can generate stellar bow shocks. Only a few bow shocks show clear radio emission. Our goal is to identify and characterize new stellar bow shocks around O a...

In this paper we discovered 13 new bow shocks around our runaway stars, and studied their infrarred and possible radio emission.

New paper out! 🌟

Runaway stars interact with the interstellar medium (gas and dust of within the Galaxy) as they move with high velocities. These interactions heat the medium and create amazing structures, called stellar bow shocks, that can be seen in the infrared (1/)
