i hate my job edited by adrie rose forthcoming may 1, 2026
"These essays are sharp, juicy, and electrifyingly honest about misogyny, racism, classism, and hierarchy, within and without the sex industry. When the voices are this clear, it's no longer reasonable for non-sex-working academics and legislators to try to work around them."βJo Weldon "I Hate My Job is a stirring "I Hate My Job dismantles tidy rebuke of the girlbossification of contemporary high visible neoliberal narratives about sex work sex workers as liberated cum-with vulnerability and precision?" capitalist-landlord-moguls." -January Santoso βAyanna Dozier "I Hate My Job is a masterclass in the knowledge sex workers acquire both on the job and through their own collaborative practices of study, both in and out of the academy. It's also a book full of wit and insight and frank accounts of occupational hazards and rewards." -McKenzie Wark

What does it mean for us being human when a massacre does not stop you in your tracks? In this essay I examine the various ways in which scholars have tried to imagine the undoing of the endless night of the Zong, the undoing of a world we cannot live within.

Classics are classics for a reason. I'm glad this poster found Casablanca. I hope you will find some time to check out a classic novel, album, TV series, or film this weekend.
One of my eternal faves
I don't know how to explain this but Casablanca is a movie for adults.
There are lots of movies built on an element of fantasy about being young or brave or defying the odds.
Casablanca is not that. Everyone in that movie has back pain and they have all just accepted it.
Script if you need it:
Iβm calling to tell Representative ____ to oppose H.R. 7661. This bill would pressure schools to remove titles that discuss lived experiences that some politicians find controversial. I donβt think trans people are controversial. (contin)
You dont need a team of analysts to say the countries carpet bombing Iran are responsible for the bombing. This is not a standard used for Russia or Iran, itβs a standard invented on Oct 17 2023 after the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital bombing and the ADLβs crybully campaign, itβs reserved only for Israel/US
Itβs not disingenuous to point out that the NYT did not run a single front page story of the Minab bombing. You donβt dispute this claim because itβs true. And the story that you reference on your webpage does not attribute blame to US/Israel and frames it as an allegation by βIranian state mediaβ
You people have been covering for genocidal murderers since the devil was in short pants. You consistently sanitize and obscure atrocities.
May every single person involved in the murder of these poor children never know a moment's peace. God have mercy this is unbearable.
The Israeli finance minister Smotrich, who is also a deputy defense minister, threatens to turn Beirut into Khan Younis.
βFor all nine of these killings, no one has yet been held accountable by the Netanyahu government,β the lawmakers wrote, βnor has the US government upheld its duty to protect Americans and secure justice and accountability for their deaths.β
Three of the nine were minors: a 14-year-old from New Jersey and two 17-year-olds killed in separate incidents.
Omar Assad, an elderly Palestinian-American, died of a stress-induced heart attack after being gagged, blindfolded, bound and left on the ground by IDF soldiers. Khamis al-Ayyada, 40, died of smoke inhalation in August after a fire was set by Israeli settlers in his village.
The nine dead span a range of ages and circumstances. Shireen Abu Akleh, renowned Palestinian American journalist, was shot in the head by an Israeli soldier in 2022 while clearly identified as press. Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, 26, from Seattle, was also shot in the head during a West Bank protest in 2024.
A good letter from Senate Democrats demanding a federal investigation into the murder of a Philadelphia-born Palestinian American named Nasrallah Abu Siyam.
Interestingly, neither of the two senators from Pennsylvania itself signed on. Nor did either NY senator, one of whom is Minority Leader.
Palestinian refugee camps of Burj Barajneh and Sabra and Shatila are being evacuated
These are the people who fled the Nakba and their descendants
The same state, Israel, is the cause of both

"It isnβt a stretch to see a bill like this used to outright ban all books by or about LGBTQ+ people under the guise of it being βsexually oriented.ββ
The bill has the ignominious distinction of being the very first national-level attempt to ban books"
This is your friendly enby bookseller to remind you that Florida has legislation like this on the books, and the result is everything from Itty Bitty Kitty Corn to Picture of Dorian Gray getting banned.
This will affect everything, even books supposedly "allegorically" queer.

It is horrific that Palestinian students from Gaza, admitted to Canadian universities, are not being granted student visas to Canada.
Amidst an ongoing genocide and occupation, denying Palestinian students is continuation of same violence and anti-Palestinian racism.

βAlmost all the 165 people killed in the attack were girls aged between seven and 12, according to local officials. There were around 170 girls at the school in southern Iranβs Minab at the time.β
