County officials are hoping to negotiate a lower price for their preferred site, which is privately-owned but ideally located just a few minutesβ walk from the existing library.
This line from @caseyjohnston.bsky.social newsletter feels depressingly true: "now that Gen Z is mostly adults, it seems like laptops in the classroom were a massive mistake, and all we did was feed $30 billion to tech companies (plus a generation of captive users) who eminently do not need it."
BREAKING: After months of discussion, developers have withdrawn applications for the proposed data center near Apex.
Peβsla, a sacred site in the Black Hills, translates to βthe heart of all that is.β The site is central in Lakota creation stories. Last week, the Forest Service approved a permit for exploratory drilling for a graphite mine.
Disappointing to say the least. This area deserves better. Feels like a big missed opportunity.
truly hate to see it
NOT JUST THIS:
Two other Democratic lawmakers in North Carolina who sided with the GOP to overturn vetoes of major bills (e.g. anti-trans legislation) are also losing in their primaries so far to progressive challengers.
This could be a major night in NC.
RESULT: Over & over, Democratic lawmaker Shelly Willingham helped the North Carolina GOP override the vetoes of Governor Stein & Cooper.
He lost just now to a progressive challenger, 56% to 44%.
(And he's likely one of several in this position. Stay tuned.)
need just a morsel of good news man
Iβll live inside the Dean Dome for a full year if we do one good
Do something cool and good, North Carolina
First anti-Iran war ad of the cycle. Nida Allam (@nidaallam.bsky.social, X: @NidaAllam) cites her opponents campaign support from Lockheed and other defense contracts and, ironically, Anthropic, which helped with the Iran attack even as Hegseth hates it
It's so distressing that the grassroots energy in the district right now is deeply anti data center and one of the biggest villains in the "stealing all my shit industry" might pull off buying the race.
I want to believe, man
That's over $2 million poured into this race on Foushee's side in the last week, mostly from 2 sources:
Jobs & Democracy PAC (AI, with support from Anthropic, maker of Claude): $1.6 million
Article ONE PAC (Jeffries-linked, possible AIPAC pass-through): $600,000
It's difficult to explain all the outside spending developments in the bellwether NC-04 race, but I'll try to break it all down.
As of last Friday, the numbers were:
Nida Allam (challenger): $1.1 million
Valerie Foushee (incumbent): $100,000
Today:
Allam: $1.58 million
Foushee: $2.27 million
Getting extreme 2022 flashbacks with the about of outside and bad faith money, including from those now with deep ties to AI, being dumped on Valerie Fousheeβs campaign in order to stop Nida Allam. Pretty disgusting stuff!
Bleak. Every single part of this story is gross and depressing.
The βAI safetyβ super PAC largely backed by Anthropic is now up to nearly $700k (!) in North Carolina 4, backing Valerie Foushee over@nidaallam.bsky.social.
Foushee is on the Dems AI task force. In 2022, she got $1m in backing from SBF AND $2M+ from AIPAC.
fire (shirt) walk with me
thinking about them today
This is so, so, sooooo good
Film Room: How did Duke close it out vs. the No. 1 defense in the country?
Over the final 4 minutes against Michigan:
- 5-out spacing with Patrick Ngongba to open up the rim
- Cam Boozer as backer screener
- Inverted PnR with Boozer to force mismatches briangeisinger.substack.com/p/march-is-c...

How does Duke create cut opportunities for Cam Boozer in the half court?
