If this administration is really intent on recreating the last days of Rome, can we at least have the fun parts of wearing togas and celebrating cool holidays like Saturnalia and Lupercalia?

She's gotta be wearing about 3 pounds of spackle in that photo on the right.
It was entirely too late and I was entirely too high when I watched this. I wept like a baby.

Green Lanterns are space cops and considering the vacuum that exists between her ears, I wouldn't be surprised.

What kind of moron do you have to be to mix up "1984" or "Animal Farm" (there is a less than zero chance she's read any other works by Orwell) and Reiner's "A Few Good Men?"
I'm having such early 90s nostalgia right now.

Oh, I know. Hope springs eternal.
Only if the representatives of the People fail to do so first.
The video of a United States Senator joining the violent removal of U.S. marine from a hearing and hideously breaking his arm in a door is an example of what has been unleashed in this country. Theyβre tapping in to get in on the violence.
And then he bragged about it on X later.
I'm sure the senator said something trite like fighting a Marine and winning.
Only the Marine wasn't fighting. That Marine had one mission: Communicate a message. And that Marine accomplished his mission. Stayed on point.
If the Marine was there to fight, this would be an entirely darker story.
Time to bust out the tire core tool and go to work!

If you've not tried Valheim, it's a really solid survival game, only about $20, and so dang pretty.
It's also not American.
Chinoceros: A White Rhino, whose two horns are the Sears Tower and Hancock Tower and is chewing on an L train, standing knee deep in Lake Michigan with a cloudy sky behind. The Chino's side is decorated with the four six-pointed stars of the Chicago flag.
Happy 188th birthday, Chicago
I wish I would have had these when doing instructional design work with SMEs that were less than diligent about citing sources.
Same thing happened in WW2. Sure, the Tiger was the better tank, but swarm the battlefield with Shermans and the Tigers died.
We've forgotten our own history.
I keep hearing "But she's a black woman and she laughs funny."
Gail, I know that you're not in the Illinois 9th, but if you wanna see a scrapper, check out @katmabu.bsky.social.
She's the real deal.
A young Kurt Russel playing the character Snake Plisken in the movie "Escape from New York." The text at the bottom of the image reads: "I don't give a fuck about your war or your president."

Tonightβs rotation is brought to you by Star Trek: House of Slayβ’, where peace is cute but the face stays stamped.
Each week, four decorated warriors compete.
Hostile takeovers. Ceremonial side-eyes. And at least one betrayal before the ad.

Live long.

When Kat first came on the scene, I reacted as only a curmudgeonly Gen X white dude does: a lot of fucking skepticism.
Since then, I've seen her get in the face of ICE agents, get thrown to the ground, and then bounce right back up.
Kat is a scrappy pugilist. She's earned my vote and admiration.
P.S. Before you come at me, yes, this is a SUPER SIMPLIFIED and SINGULAR PERSPECTIVE of what has happened over the past 3/4 century. Part of it is MY lived experience.
There is A LOT more nuanced and better political histories on this subject that you should seek out if you liked this.

Everyone involved in the Iran-Contra affair pretty much got off with a slap on the wrist. And the U.S. has demonized Iran ever since.
It's pretty easy to see that everything we are dealing with today is due to horrible sh!t the U.S. did almost 75 years ago.

Carter, despite all his attempts to bring home the revolution hostages, flopped against Reagan, who had negotiated the release of the hostages after he won the election.
Then Reagan sold arms to Iran so they would funnel $$$ to the Contra rebels (anti-Communists) in Nicaragua.

You know what happened 73 years ago? The CIA/MI6 backed coup d'etat of Iran that reinstated the Shah as a U.S. friendly regime. The subsequent crack downs led to the rise of dissent, protest, and subsequent Iranian Revolution.

Even before the Iranian Revolution in 1979, I remember hearing adult conversations and news talking about how Iran was an existential threat to the U.S.
But to really understand just why Iran was a problem for the U.S., you've got to go ALL THE WAY BACK to 1953.

Growing up Gen X and living with "IRAN IS A THREAT TO THE U.S.!" since I was a kid, I've seen a thing or two about the U.S. and Iran.
