"Galileo prayed each time he sat down with The Almagest." I like this idea that, when assessing the universe & the centuries of human endeavors to understand it, we are in the presence of something that is itself miraculous.
I just submitted my comments to the FCC, asking them to deny the requests for these terrible, catastrophic satellite constellations.

We are At War now, according to President Bush, and I take him at his word. He also says this War might last for "a very long time." Generals and military scholars will tell you that eight or 10 years is actually not such a long time in the span of human history - which is no doubt true - but history also tells us that 10 years of martial law and a wartime economy are going to feel like a Lifetime to people who are in their twenties today. The poor bastards of what will forever be known as Generation Z are doomed to be the first generation of Americans who will grow up with a lower standard of living than their parents enjoyed. That is extremely heavy news, and it will take a while for it to sink in. The 22 babies born in New York City while the World Trade Center burned will never know what they missed. The last half of the 20th century will seem like a wild party for rich kids, compared to what's coming now. The party's over, folks.

Thereβs a thing your body does automatically, all day long, that gives your brain a micro-reset. Thatβs right, blinking. On my next podcast Iβll explain my method for extending a single blink over the course of multiple hours. Itβs called blinkmaxxing, and you wonβt believe the refresh it gives you.
Rarely have I seen an article posted on this platform where the comments people are making about the article more directly prove the need for that article.
going in with the assumption of rising antisemitism, why does "the Epstein class" stick yet I've never heard "the Epstein/Maxwell class"? what's lost in the change, and what is gained? gained: precision, specificity (I know other Epsteins), context. lost: their ability to substitute "Them" or wink
to me, "the Trump class" doesn't flow, which is a red flag. the "Epstein class" uses Epstein to signal Jews so "class" means "cabal." this term propogates the hint hint message, often without the knowledge of those who use it like we would. action based (e.g. associates, beneficiaries) is better imo
any pot can be a neti pot if you pour it up your nose
ok also just to add that a good test is whether you could substitute "Them" or add "you know who I mean..." & it would be legible. unfortunately avoiding left-wing antisemitism makes it harder to express oneself with a character limit, but at least it doesn't echo the language of millenia of hatred!
some of the other advice might be unintentionally antisemitic, fyi- you can't just substitute another term where an antisemite would have 'the Jews.' part of why I recommend facts and limiting frameworks. something like 'networks of profs, world leaders, tech oligarchs' > one collective noun (imo)
thank you! yes, bc anti-Semitism implies the existence of a "Semite race," which is a tropeβremoving the hyphen rejects the "anti-" framing that suggests antisemites have in "Semite" an entity to be against. I recommend outlets' style guide updates on it (w/in the last decade or so) for more details
My rec: try to notice and reject tropes in your mental framing, and let there be a void. gravitate away from ppl who use the tropes to make space for positive influence by those who helped explain the tropes. when in doubt, avoid frameworks and interpretation, speak in facts. & there's not a hyphen!

Sowing fear of "ICE at the polls!" could do more to suppress votes than any actual ICE at the polls. Here's an explanation of the right's strategy on this, along with my recommendations for what to do instead of playing along.

It's so striking to me all the essays about the death of the humanities and who and what to blame and blah blah blah and the answer is pretty much the undergraduate business major and everything it represents.
When I got the contract to write a history of concentration camps in 2014, I hoped to keep the US from ending up here. That didn't work out! But now it's critical to understand how much is already in process and the enormity of what's coming. The sooner we act to stop it, the more people we'll save.
Thatβs the whole point of this post
