We kicked off @scifri.bsky.social #cephalopodweek yesterday with @invertebabe.bsky.social! We will be sharing ceph scientist stories all week, but first: who are our cephalopods, and why study them?
Excited to see @vangeliqueallen.bsky.social and Iβs seltzers at the @researchamerica.bsky.social National Health Research Forum next week!
@sciforgood.bsky.social βs pilot sites (11 sites across the country) are working hard to make this happen in their local communities!
Our Made in Your Community project has been co-created by @vangeliqueallen.bsky.social and @bridgetsquidget.bsky.social , who is also one of the illustrators behind the double-sided cards.
You can learn more about our initiative on our website: www.dreamsofascientist.com/made-in-your...
ICYMI: Three animal groups have vision sharp enough to detect objectsβvertebrates, arthropods and cephalopodsβbut only the first two have been studied. A lab in Oregon is changing that.

A public mural of fish and flowers
A scale model of the planets with the Colorado mountains in the background
A flyer to a SCOPE virtual panel on creating murals and models for the public
How do you connect people in the city to the sea, or people in the mountains to space? And how do you engage them both in science?
Come hear how @skypeascientist.bsky.social and Jimmy Negus used large scale art to do exact that this Friday (05/9) at 9am PST!

Two scientists showing students zebrafish swimming under a microscope
Looking for ideas on how to introduce elementary and middle schoolers to different scientific model organisms?
Tune into our SCOPE panel this Thursday 10 PST to learn how Edward Chen teamed up with libraries to show students swimming zebrafish and growing E. coli.

I had the best time chatting with Sabrina Imbler (@sabs.bsky.social), an incredible science writer and author, and Angelique (@vangeliqueallen.bsky.social), a scientist and passionate science communicator making her podcast debut! ποΈ
This is horrible to post, but I may as well post it. We are essentially shutting down research operations in my group, which is focused on treatments for pediatric brain cancer. Iβm a well funded investigator, and thereβs no choice. Science canβt function without the stability of NIH
Do you want to get hands-on training in visual neuroscience techniques? @traceofpink.bsky.social and I will be teaching students how to record from the octopus visual system, as seen in this video, at the @mblscience.bsky.social vision course!
Apply by this Wednesday: join.mbl.edu/register/?id...
