Also, friends don't let friends game jam in Rust. Particularly when it's been a few months - that language just turned to a Pythony sludge in my head.
But it was, annoyingly, what I needed for the computational speed with my central mechanic.

My Monte-Carlo library that I've been working on for ages, and was counting on for my core mechanic, let me down badly. Plus, time didn't end up working.
Nothing to show for my efforts this year, alas.
Still might try to make it, but limit to my initial scope.
I heard there was a power chord
That David played when he was bored
But you don't really care for metal, do ya?
You play it fast, you play it quick,
With 14 toms and double kick

Everything this #7drl season has gone badly. The timing just hasn't worked, and it's revealed some major bugs in my MCTS implementation I went in with (which is going to be helpful for other things).
Still tempted to try to make the thing at the same limited scope. Maybe it'll be OK still.
I've always fancied him more a cyclops, and Melbourne his Nobody
Pencil drawing of the family from Bluey
Bluey and Bingo dressed as Doctor and Patient 'Quick! Nurse! I need my prescription pad! How do you spell amputate?' 'What's that mean?"
Banjo dressed as Darth Vader 'No, Bluey - _I_ am your father!'

What's Cpt Janeway's favourite punk rock song?
Come out and play

Fun fact: almost an hour later, I'm able to breathe again!
We've got idea-guys...
... WHO DON'T EVEN HAVE IDEAS!?
Gah. Had to lock in deck, annoyingly. But fortunately, surprisingly, hit a _decent_ amount of it. Possibly too many words. Sadly, didn't end up with any of my illustrations.
The timing notes from rehearsal is a great hint - I'm going to try to get those in the live rehearsal tomorrow.
"meaning to... but still haven't managed to do it" is the story of my life.
But you're right there - particularly first-time nerves. Done this internally, heck, my actual degree theoretically trained me for this!
It just feels... different somehow.
My topic is 'How to write Awful, Unmaintainable Code' so I'm _hoping_ that I can keep it smiley. Thank you for the actual reminder (and evidence! I love evidence!) to smile there.
I managed to include a reference to my favourite author in my #ddd talk.
Come! If you're in #naarm/#melbourne, and you're in software engineering, you can see me let out of my cage to talk in public for the first ever time!

@hollycummins.com Any hints for a first time tech speaker? You seemed extremely confident up there when I saw you in Melbourne, like a year ago.
@ernerfeldt.bsky.social
"egui is not a framework. egui is a library you call into, not an environment you program for."
I don't think I can understate how happy this specific line in the readme makes me, particularly after the last few integrations I've had to do in my day job.
Ooh - you going to try 7DRL this team
year?
@mode7games.bsky.social After your designer notes, I'm remembering how much I loved Cortex.
Same part of my brain that loved Blood Bowl loved it. Gridiron adapts so well to turn based games.
You can test new tech ideas using the Seinfeld Test
Would the product eliminate the plot of an episode? (Google maps, cell phones, paypal, battery packs)
Good tech.
Would the product inspire new Seinfeld plots? (NFTs, AI chatbots, crypto currency, blindboxes, metaverse land sales)
Bad tech.
They spent so long thinking about if they could, then if they should, and then decided 'It's a swell idea with naught that can go wrong!'
The #music truth the world is not ready to hear is that #TheProclaimers could do a fantastic cover of Bad Romance
Hopefully I have a chance to actually make "And, You Are?", my planned #7drl for this year. Toddler = could go either way. Actually needing to utilise some Rust I've got to do it (either by using a game library in Rust, or importing in Python for UI) is... not going to help my chances.
Caves of Qud is quickly elevating itself though (if I could bring myself to reload the save). I'm not playing in 'true rl' mode though.
I've liked most things @epyoncf.bsky.social has made. Played some Crawl Stone Soup - but still figuring out what I think.
My own Atlas Warriors... uh... sucks.
I still can't go past ADOM. I think it might be more due to 'It was my first love' bias though, because I struggle with its length and similarity of starting game now. Brogue is probably Number 2.
There was a really great 2 part, 3-4h total length movie in that final season.
I hope somebody fan edits it to give it to us one day.
Your adventures are making me want to boot it up again.
It's not my favorite roguelike (comes close), but it is... almost perfect for what it is. Everything has a purpose. It is to system driven design what Portal is to narrative games.
(I put Chicago Express in that category too in board games)
"Don't fear the reaper" is bad in any general anaesthetic setting
"Wrecking ball" - not great when anybody is doing work, you know, there
"I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts" could be read as an awful metaphor
We were at a fertility clinic yesterday for an IUI (that started as IVF :( ) and thought of some of the worst possible songs to play in a fertility clinic.
My leading candidates were 'Billie Jean' and 'You can't always get what you want'. Any other suggestions?

Not every #Bowie song resonates well with me, but those that do are some of my favourite ever songs (and not just those recordings - Heroes is such a fantastic song, even when covered, and I've heard lots of them)
