Advance Native Political Leadership's Native Power Building Summit is a one-day gathering bringing together Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian leaders, organizers, elected officials, artists, academics, and allies for a day rooted in connection, reflection, and collective visioning.
The greatest honor of my work is bearing witness to Native joy and ambition and brilliance. To hear deep belly laughs ringing down the hallways from dinner; to cry together as we process all we've overcome; to celebrate when our leaders win the big award, pass the bill, or step into power.
With each hug, I remembered what we have long been fighting for – a place of belonging, of love and community, of leadership that looks, feels, and sounds like home.
Our 2024 summit was just 24 hours after Kamala Harris became the Democratic frontrunner for President. I remember walking into that conference hall with a mix of pensive, anticipatory anxiety and deep excitement for what was in front of us.

Abolishing ICE: YouGov released an updated poll after the murder of Alex Pretti this weekend.
Nationally, net +5pp of Americans believe we should abolish ICE for the first time.
Speaking up works. Protesting works. Calling your senators and pressuring them to stand up, works. Keep going ya'll.
100%. Until their money is where their mouth is, this is just an empty statement (and a weak one at that).
Completely agree. They have the power to actually *do something* - and yet they choose to respond with soft words that water down the gravity of what's happening.
This is a cop out of the highest order.
"ICE will leave Minnesota if you hand over your voter rolls" tells you everything you need to know.
This was never about immigration or fraud. It was always about rigging elections.
No President and no administration is above our country’s Constitution, and no one in this country is without rights.

Minnesota deserves strong leadership.
When state violence goes unchecked, we expect our leaders to step up and lead the charge. State leadership is more important than ever, and Minnesota has among the best.
ICE needs to get the hell out of Minnesota.
60 CEOs with the MN Chamber signed an open letter calling for "immediate deescalation."
Apparently, it took more than one murder to catch the attention of business leaders.
Words are no longer enough: if you want change, demand it with your lobbying $$$ and campaign contributions.
One thing that has brought me tremendous hope in the past week, despite the horror of ICE's kidnapping and murders, is the response of everyday people who have finally said that 'enough is enough'.
In moments of crisis, we rise up to protect each other. Always.

My deepest condolences are with the family of Alex Pretti, and everyone who knew and loved him.
Enough is enough. They are killing us in the streets. The Senate cannot send one more penny to ICE.
No justice, no peace.
After working with thousands of candidates over the years, I can assure you: most of the stuff put out by think tanks or research firms intended for ~Dems running for office~ never actually gets to those candidates. Something to keep in mind as you observe the intrafactional BS!
