Our economies collapse without the labour of frontline workers who provide care including the Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA workers) in India, migrant domestic workers in Lebanon, and those providing essential care to communities living with HIV across Eastern Africa.
What's valued as 'skilled' for workers who provide care under capitalism is the ability to perform under exploitative conditions: administering care as quickly as possible and managing emotions to meet job requirements.
Today on hashtag#LabourDay, we challenge the harmful and binary categorization of labour: βskilledβ / βunskilledβ.Β
The capitalist society we live under declares workers who provide care as βlow-paidβ and βunskilledβ labour, which is deeply patriarchal and violent.
Lemme say this. Angela Davis called Palestine the litmus test. It is, & it long has been because the occupation of it is 75 years old. A lot of these people who were calling themselves activists for this & that or progressive or what have you, even actual organizers, utterly failed this litmus test.
Below is the portion with Rawan.
"Rawan Masri is the Co-Founder of Decolonize Palestine, and a resident of Ramallah where she works as a translator and writer. She joins us to talk about events in Palestine, and her recent visit to [SA] when that nation filed its charge of genocide against Israel."
People assume theyβll be the exception. That disability, poverty, homelessness wonβt befall them
That if something βbadβ happens, they will be able to βtry harderβ their way out of it.
This false belief allows them to blame the ones who are suffering, instead of the oppressive systems that trap us

Authentic masculinity lies in vulnerability, compassion, and respect for others. And, I'm fortunate to know many men who embody these qualities. π
"Decolonisation is a project for the restoration of pre-colonial indigenous ways. It will not be achieved in the colonial workplaces alone (masters tools).
It will be found in the communities that forge ahead with restoring global indigenous ways and healing land disconnection."
