Great! I understand there are quite a few good local reporters who lost their jobs recently. I look forward to seeing who @wcp.bsky.social brings on board!

Did he say which ones?

What have NY criminal courts given as the rationale for rejecting arguments that use that as the basis?

Does WCP have a DC reporter again? I unsubscribed because it was just The Needle for months. I’d love to support them if local coverage has resumed.

The DCST AV study from 2019-2020 said that too. Unfortunately there was a lot going on that year and people didn’t really think about it then.

Trump administration can’t stop New York's congestion pricing, court rules Gov. Kathy Hochul declared victory: β€œCongestion pricing is legal, it works, and it is here to stay. β€œ

What was the basis for reversing it?

If you don’t understand this dynamic you get leaders who just default to β€œdon’t do anything” when there are loud voices against something. We need candidates who have the strength to act.

Here’s the thing about this stuff. Land use and transportation is a policy area where people disagree with their neighbors. Everyone wants the streets plowed, trash picked up, grants spent responsibly, etc. For people coming out of other policy areas, it’s easy to not understand deep divisions.

01.03.2026 21:00 πŸ‘ 3 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Raymond: β€œListen to all, but sometimes you have to pick”
Oye: β€œI don’t believe in one side versus another. We all want the same things.” (Huh?)

Nelson: β€œYou listen to everybody”
Chavous: β€œMost important voice is the community affected. First voices I’d listen to is ANC, neighborhood association, and on AZ Ave over 700 wanted to keep it, 40 were against… I would never support going against the community.”

We’ll see if they will really stick to this if elected - I’m curious how much these things actually affect a race or policy but they are fun

Do you support road pricing? All yes
Do you think ped/bike should get more priority in designs? All yes
Cameras? All yes
Safe Routes to School? All yes
Will you do Week Without Driving? Nelson yes, Chavous has to drive kids to school, Raymond yes, Oye yes & did it already this year

01.03.2026 20:39 πŸ‘ 9 πŸ” 1 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 1

@kevinchavous.bsky.social reiterates β€œlistening to communities.” I submitted a question to ask how you decide who to listen to. The ANC? Whoever’s at a meeting? Who’s loudest? Or what? That’s the tricky thing. I hope they can ask that.

01.03.2026 20:36 πŸ‘ 4 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 1

A lot of answers are about accountability, effective government, and listening to communities. That’s all great to say but everyone says that also.

It must be tough to be an at large candidate bc you have to show up and talk about policy areas you don’t know much about, to people who care deeply and will see the holes in anything you say. I appreciate these 4 people showing up even if they don’t know so much about transportation.

Mamdani isn’t making them free yet either :)

Kevin Chavous talks about public service, son of a CM and DNC member and working for Anita Bonds. Candace Nelson talks about having worked for JLG and Schwalb. Neither says something about transportation in opening statement.

Ok this forum is on to the at large candidates.

Oye Owolewa says he lives in Ward 8 where people live 10 years less on average and some of that is traffic violence.

Lisa Raymond says her kids were almost hit in a crosswalk by a bus.

@janeese4dc.bsky.social says she will be proactive about safety, not just react to deaths. Doesn’t want a slogan like Vision Zero, wants to put children first.

@kenyanmcduffie.bsky.social’s empty seat says nothing

@garygoodweather.bsky.social says action requires a comprehensive plan.

01.03.2026 19:45 πŸ‘ 11 πŸ” 4 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

@garygoodweather.bsky.social pivots to fare free transit. Says he looked at congestion pricing but doesn’t seem to endorse it.

01.03.2026 19:41 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Q to @janeese4dc.bsky.social: You support congestion pricing. What will you say to the inevitable claims this bad for low income and POC?

JLG: It works, like in NYC. Smart policy. What will matter is how we use $. Can build more reliable transit and create safe infrastructure.

01.03.2026 19:39 πŸ‘ 3 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Mayoral candidate @janeese4dc.bsky.social says she won’t let β€œinterest groups” come in at the last minute and stop things DDOT plans. (I think we know who that is.) Wants more E-W bike lanes.

01.03.2026 19:30 πŸ‘ 11 πŸ” 1 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

First off, no organization can force its board members not to do something. Second, I applaud that they have a board with diverse views. This also shows the board isn’t controlling endorsements - as boards properly shouldn’t do.

01.03.2026 19:26 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

If I care about transportation and one leading mayoral candidate isn’t coming to the transportation forum, what is their argument for wanting my vote? Genuine question.

01.03.2026 19:21 πŸ‘ 9 πŸ” 1 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

I won't be supporting any of the candidates who say schools should have stayed closed. Appreciate @elissasilverman.bsky.social's thoughtful answer.

05.02.2026 22:29 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Thanks for asking candidates if they would have reopened schools. I wish we knew what @kenyanmcduffie.bsky.social thinks. (I wish we had a clearer answer from @janeese4dc.bsky.social too!)

When I heard about the layoffs you were the person I searched for first to see what had happened. So sad to hear this!!!

BTW, you may know this or it's on purpose but I couldn't find you by searching your name on bluesky (I think bc there's no name listed).

IT'S WORKING: Initial Data Show Congestion Pricing Has Stemmed The Tide of Years of Increasing Traffic - Streetsblog New York City Congestion pricing has led to a 7.5-percent drop in traffic in the Central Business District below 60th Street, the MTA said on Monday.

β€œIt has been a very good week here in New York. There’s less traffic, quieter streets β€” and I think everybody’s seen it."

Travel times on bridges and tunnels into central Manhattan dropped 34%, and traffic volumes in the area 7.5% during the first week of decongestion pricing.
