There is a fellow out there who rebuilds eMate batteries, I think the going rate is something like $100 for a recell these days. The hinge fix is also pretty straightforward to DIY, better to do it before it snaps and breaks the display cable.

So I think I have a solution for my Nagumo hoodie conundrum. I found this short-sleeved hoodie with contrasting zipper. Through the magic of buying two of them, I’ll have a tailor transplant the hood from a white version on to the blue version.

What the fuck is this, Discord? Ten messages for a scrollback buffer on resume? You have to be shitting me. It used to be 50 on desktop, then a few weeks ago it went down to 30, and now it’s at 10. Why does software have to keep getting worse? This isn’t even touching how bad scrollback is on mobile

Exactly, online shop smooths out the dips. I never got into Anime Boston despite trying over and over, and that was a decade ago when it was (slightly) less brutal. But I still did plenty of B/C-list cons. I just don’t think people can really survive on this as a day job without that one A-list con.
Like, I would not have been able to survive on that doing one or two shows a month. Especially with all the turnover! My online shop always had steady traffic but it could never compete with a really big show (and I rarely got into those, they were like lottery tickets)
I did conventions for years during “the busy season” (AKA not the winter) and I would peg my gross margin at something like 30%. But that usually meant walking out of a show netting $800-1000 for three days after all the expenses (inventory, food, travel, etc) and the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze
This is the model of the Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo. It’s one of my favorite shows. But it can exist alongside other cons, I think. I’m sure there’s more like it out there!

Whoops, I missed my chance to make the “640% should be enough for everybody” joke. But it’s obviously not enough because the PicoIDE campaign keeps going. 6 days left! I’m blown away by how far it’s come. BTW the last update I posted brought even more people with weird systems out of the woodwork!
