A majestic black cat. ...I definitely didn't crop out a big pile of unfolded clean laundry.
Majestic.
Funnily enough, my boss' enthusiasm evaporated at about the same time that he saw the new rate.
Oh well. At the end of next week I get to walk away, free and clear - and sometimes, that's worth more than any amount of money.
Due to certain certification works that my current employer is contractually required to provide, and knowing that I am the only person in 3 hours drive that holds said certification, I offered to stay on past my terminal date as a casual employee.
... at only TRIPLE my current hourly wage.
I have a new job, which starts in two weeks. The boss loaded up the schedule with work, but my coworkers put in for leave so I'll be the only one available to handle it - and I'm suddenly not stressed by whether it actually gets done or not, because in 10 working days, it's no longer my problem...
Whether the new job will let me commit the same level of time and focus to #Homebrewery remains to be seen...
It is a period of transition and upheaval.
I'm changing companies, halfway through my notice.
Boss stacked a lot of work into next week, my coworkers have been taken leave (because they know there will be less opportunities after I'm gone), and I find myself caring about its completion less and less with every day that passes.

FACTS: #Homebrewery is 100% free. No premium tiers or features, no advertising, and a commitment that there never will be.
OPINION: At the very least, then, it should be a baseline; to justify their cost, all paid services should be better than Homebrewery in some articulable fashion.
stock art pack cover with the drawing of 8 book piles with different compositions, types and quantities: one has a skull on top, other has books open, other has a candle, a turtle or a cat book end, etc
what else to write about it? book stacks!

If you happen to fit the bill, let me know.
If there's anything you need help with, the HB communities on Discord and Reddit are pretty active, and I do my best to answer any HB questions via Bsky as well.
That's fair. What keyboard shortcuts do you feel are missing? HB has quite a few but I suspect that they may not be visible enough for users to actually find them.
What are the GMB features that you prefer over Homebrewery? I've never used GMB, but I thought HB Legacy mode was pretty close to GMB.
I first heard this 12 hours ago, and it's still stuck in my head.
Oh wow... That's going right over Dunedin and Queenstown, I think... Good places to be in 2028, I guess!

How to access Homebrewery's Style Editor.
How to insert the A4 Page Size snippet into the Style Editor. -- These menus are only available if you are already in the Style Editor --
@kiotw.bsky.social Some screengrabs on how to access the Style Editor, and where to find page size snippets - for you, and anyone else stumbling on this answer with the same issue.
Usually this occurs because the page size on the PDF printer is different to the page size in the document; Homebrewery defaults to Letter to better match the physical books but many PDF printers default to A4.
You can alter the page size in Homebrewery's Style Editor.
It's @davidfarrier.com learning all about D&D - sounds like something #KiwiRPG needs to share around!
(D&D comes from the US, but some of the most celebrated roleplaying games are from down here in Aotearoa... Monster of the Week, Deathmatch Island, and many more!)

I re-worked the way CodeMirror themes are built for Homebrewery, allowing them to be created separately from the main build.
It's not much compared to the... everything, right now. But it should make it easier to eliminate a big chunk of technical debt in #Homebrewery.
IT'S ALIVE!!!

As I recall, "jackdaws are corvids but not crows" was part of the final straw in Reddit's Unidan sockpuppeting drama.
It's kind of a weird reason to know a corvid fact, but nonetheless, it is the reason...
When you look back on the project, only you get to decide if it was worth it.
You are the only audience that matters, the only opinion worth noting is your own.
So make something that you're proud of.
...even if it just spends the next seven years gathering dust in the basement - like my helmet.
So I can't tell you if you should make something.
But if you do... Do it because you want it to exist, NEED it to exist, enough to take up the pencil or brush or keyboard or craft knife.
You can't control the audience; it may not be popular, or a commercial success.
But you can make it for you.
I checked, surely the NE guards had something comparable... but it just didn't exist.
And my brain latched on to this idea that just maybe, I could make it myself.
I sketched plans. I bought glue and paint and EVA foam floor mats.
Despite some set backs, I think that ultimately, I was successful.
The crest of the Night Elf faction from World of Warcraft, featuring a helmet, tri-glaive, shield, and two arrows.
When World of Warcraft: Classic was announced, I was looking over the Night Elf art, and I realized that despite playing almost since launch, I had never seen the helmet at the top of the crest as player loot... or in game at all, really.
A helmet, based on the one on World of Warcraft's Night Elf faction crest.
I can't tell you whether you should make things.
I can tell you about this helmet, though.
