I am optimistic about 2026 and what it has in store for Dane County! When asked for one word to describe my first year as your County Executive, I replied, "powerful," because I am so lucky to live in a community that cares so deeply about each other and our collective well being.

This week I was proud to announce the formation of a County Property Utilization Workgroup - a new initiative to take a hard look at every piece of county-owned land and facility, and ask: Are we using them smartly, efficiently, and in the publicβs best interest?

Everyone matters. Especially in the summer heat, overdose risk can rise. Letβs look out for each other and help keep Dane County safe.

β οΈTest all drugs for fentanyl before use.
β οΈCarry Narcan and be prepared to use multiple doses.
β οΈCheck in daily with anyone you care about who uses drugs.

Public Health Madison & Dane County has issued an alert after five confirmed overdose calls in just two days. We donβt yet know if thereβs a change in the local drug supply but this is a public health emergency.
This is a meaningful way we can acknowledge the past and work toward a more inclusive future.
I encourage you to listen and learn more about how you can be part of this effort.
Through Dane Countyβs Prejudice in Places project, weβre working to raise awareness and help homeowners take action to remove them.
I had the opportunity to join City Cast Madison to talk about part of our history thatβs often hidden in plain sight: racial covenants in property deeds. While theyβre no longer legally enforceable, they still appear in thousands of property records today.

This week, I joined local and state partners to cut the ribbon on the completed County Highway M Improvement Projectβone of the most important infrastructure investments in Dane County in recent years.
