Every new detail makes Sac State seem more and more on course for a FAMU-style implosion: one season of FBS “glory” before a swift return to the FCS.

I won't lie; I'm very sad to see coach Cahill go. I know he remained close to his folks back at Yale and I'm sure there are a lot of very happy Yalies today.
The early rumor I hear is that Lehigh will likely be promoting from within for their next head coach - who, I'm not sure.
Kevin Cahill name Yale football head coach.
A slam dunk hire by the Bulldogs and subsequently a huge loss for the Mountain Hawks.

NDSU moved up because they were scared of Chicago State football
Best of luck to the Bison at the next level. Still feels completely surreal that the dominant dynasty is now gone.
Is 2026 the most wide open the FCS has been in years?
Wording was odd, and left concern initially that there was something health or family related. But seems to have been choreographed given Bobby Kennedy is full HC, not interim.
Now choosing to retire vs “choosing to retire” from changing landscape, 🤷♂️. But doesn’t matter at all
Hauck deserves his 💐
To be fair to Coach Hauck, watching the Bobcats win a national championship and dominate Cat-Griz the last decade has not been a pleasant experience for most of the Montana faithful.
So it’s not just him as head coach not enjoying it anymore.
Erk* (stupid autocorrect)
Bobby Hauck officially ends his career:
* The winningest coach in Montana’s history
* The winningest coach in Big Sky history
* Tied for 2nd most appearances in a national championship game at 4 (along with K.C. Keeler, Chris Klieman, Jim Donnan, Erik Russell, and Roy Kidd)
Obviously will be waiting to hear more, but the timing of Hauck stepping down seems quite odd so hoping all is well for him and his family.
Per Skyline Sports:
“Bobby Hauck expected to resign as Montana's head coach on Wednesday.
Wide receivers coach Bobby Kennedy will be the head coach. One source confirms that Kennedy will have no interim tag… will serve as UM's head coach in the fall of 2026.”

Reminder that Lou Holtz got his start as a HC at William & Mary, compiling a 13-20 record from 1969-1971.
But that record also is comprised of a 9-4 record in the SoCon, including a conference championship in 1970 and a second place finish the following year.
We’re about 2 news cycles away from Sac State launching a meme coin to fund their “FBS transition”
Reminder: the CFP is run by an LLC and not the NCAA.
While the NCAA recognizes the winner of the CFP as an FBS national champion, you can be an FBS champ without even playing in it.
The only real NCAA D1 Football Champion comes from their tournament: the Montana State Bobcats!
If Cignetti learned anything from his time in the FCS, it’s that if you have the lead it’s best that you secure the win with an interception!

If Indiana wins tonight, Curt Cignetti will have more national titles than Bobby Hauck.
That actually reads weird thinking about it.
The D1 National Championship game happened two weeks ago.
But there is a postseason bowl game tonight!
Wait, they have an HBCU doing “America the Beautiful” and not “Lift Every Voice and Sing”?
You know what?
It’s the offseason already so screw it. Here’s another game thread for the CFP since the @redditcfb.com quarterly threads are going to be bombarded and might be hard to follow.

If Curt Cignetti wins his first National Championship tonight, his agents oughta demand an addendum to his contract:
Indiana will be required to schedule at least one team a season coached by Matt Entz or KC Keeler as long as they’re HCs in D1.
His two white whales.
Awesome to see MSU continuing to honor Native American heritage throughout the season.
Whether today at the National Championship celebration, or earlier with the dope MSU American Indian Council’s logo helmets, major love!
National Championship parade in Bozeman
Tarleton wants to be thought of as one of the big boys.
But after last year’s playoff fizzle, their scheduling is saying otherwise. Instead of toughening up, their FCS OOC opponents have averaged fewer than 5 wins over the last two seasons.
Sure, wins are wins. But c’mon now.
Best thing the NCAA does is not automatically accepting that the private CFP as the official designator.
Now whether because they don’t allow every worthy program access (see 08 Utah or 17 UCF) or just don’t get their beaks wet, that’s different.
Congrats to the 25 FBS National Champion Hoosiers!
Reminder for suburb/exurb types:
If there are forests, crop fields, and/or strip mall sprawl between Small Town X and City Y, residents of Small Town X don't get to say that they're residents of City Y.
Only residents of City Y get to say they are, w/ border towns iffy at best.
KC Keeler’s team won 38-35
Meanwhile Cignetti lost to three national champs in 3 years: to NDSU in the title game 2019, to Keeler’s Sam Houston in the semis in 2020, and to NDSU in the semis in 2021
