Good overview of what makes a city great for cycling, spoiler alert it's not just about cycle lanes. www.ox.ac.uk/news/feature...
What is NOT on my news feed since the weekend:
Ukraine (about 50% of previous)
ICE (about 25% of previous)
Climate change (about 10% of previous)
Epstein Files (about 5% of previous)
The US/Israel war against Iran is, for obvious reasons, distracting me/us from many other issues.

An incredible retraction by the Daily Telegraph today. They have apologised for publishing an article last year headlined: โWe earn ยฃ345k, but soaring private school fees mean we canโt afford to go on five holidays.โ The entire story was fabricated; the family did not exist.

'In Defence of Walkability as a Crime Prevention Strategy'.
New preprint with @ianloader.bsky.social
We challenge the consensus that walkable neighbourhoods are more criminogenic.
We highlight two flaws in the literature: i) overreliance on police statistics; and ii) neglect of motoring offences.
Another exhibit for: We may win everything. Doing so wonโt be fun

It sounds if as Starmer thinks he is in 'the fight of our lives' with, err, checks notes, The Green Party
Oh, and pro tackling - not denying - the climate crisis!
You beauty :)
The solution is problem free. It's only problematic if you operate from the base assumption that the carriageway is only for private vehicles.
**THAT** is the real problem.
(And yes, bikes and scooters absolutely should be parked on the carriageway; not on footpaths and pavements).
Dump on your actual supporters and potential allies; pander to those who are never going to vote for you. Pure genius.
Never again can Labour say that a Green vote is a wasted vote. You don't have to compromise and tacitly endorse Labour's concessions to the far-right anywhere. This is so so huge!
The Labour Party is not okay!

Err, isn't that, like, telling the world you are in a relationship while having AI do all the relating for you?
People who always drive inhabit the environment in a peculiar and limited way, insulated them from the world and the risks they create. One good argument for multi-modal living - ok, drive when you must, but also walk, cycle or take the bus - is that it supplies a richer perspective on the world.
Apart from anything else, this is a fascinating example of a discussion between someone who wants to discuss policy and someone who wants to perform politics.
It is the drawing of this false equivalence that radically calls into doubt Labourโs claim to be a party of the Left and its capacity to grasp politically - let alone climatically - the moment we inhabit.
Utter nonsense. And worse itโs made me agree with Gary Neville
