Airspace in the Middle East as of 6 March.
On this weekβs AvTalk podcast, we explore how war in the Middle East has affected civil aviation in the immediate area and the impacts to the industry outside the region. flightradar24.com/blog/avtalk-...
I know you *hope* your email finds me well, but alas...
Good morning! Yes, this is he
We talk a lot about how the current NOTAM system isn't very helpful, but this NOTAM from Iran is... something.

There goes the 19x daily to Kalamazoo. The proposed summer schedule from American and United was unsustainable to begin with. www.reuters.com/world/us/faa...
On this weekβs AvTalk podcast: the US House fails to pass the ROTOR Act, introduced in wake of the DCA mid-air collision. We look at options for whatβs next. Plus, big news this week from Really Cool Airlines (yes, thatβs actually their name). flightradar24.com/blog/avtalk-...
No, no, this is worse. It's the second mistaken shoot down. The first one last week was CBP shooting down a balloon that closed ELP. This week it is the DOD shooting down a CBP drone.
Classic dual spider man meme with one spider man labeled CBP and one labeled DOD
Early this month, CBP borrowed the DODβs anti-drone laser to shoot down a party balloon. Now the DOD mistakenly used the weapon on a CBP drone.

Love a good celebration, but I'm incredibly disappointed that @schakowsky.house.gov could find the time for this but not to vote on the ROTOR ACT, which failed to pass the House by one vote.
Exit by early summer and re-enter by late fall?
Only one way to find out!

Now weβre talking!
This weekβs AvTalk is just going to be @airlineflyer.net narrating his amazing journey to DC. Will there be a dogsled involved? Hopefully!

On this weekβs episode of AvTalk, we discuss Unitedβs back-to-back 7700s due to two very different medical emergencies. And we walk through the airline decision process when an aircraft makes a 14 hour flight to nowhere. www.flightradar24.com/blog/avtalk-...
It really is like paradise, people tell me all about it and I'll never get there.
A Winair Twin Otter makes the steep approach to St Barthβs RWY 10, crossing just feet above a road at the top of a hill next to the airport.
On this weekβs AvTalk, @petchmo.bsky.social is joined by @byerussell.com to discuss the sudden closure and sudden reopening of El Paso airspace Wednesday. And @airlineflyer.net and @photojdl.bsky.social report in from the Caribbean on a slice of avgeek paradise. www.flightradar24.com/blog/avtalk-...
This week we have a full house with @byerussell.com joining me while @airlineflyer.net and @photojdl.bsky.social chime in from the SXM.
This pilot's POV on all this: A year after the DCA midair, the apparent lack of Pentagon-FAA coordination and understanding here truly does not bode well. www.cbsnews.com/news/airspac...
Only time will tell.
Holy crap, that was insane!
Iβve been on a lot of flights to some interesting places doing what I do, but that was BY FAR the most heart pounding landing. St Barth over the hill with some very interesting crosswinds today. Even the seasoned pilot said today was βinteresting.β
I actually wrote a whole history of the airport (through about 2015) but it has been disappeared off the internet. Time to republish I think.
I donβt think Iβve ever received a better compliment.
Gentlemen my time has come! Hereβs Burkeβs original diagram for OβHareβs runways. The initial runways were set to match MDW and keep traffic separated. Older aircraft didnβt handle crosswinds as well. The advent of jet engines and more advanced tech made it easier to operate with crosswinds.
