In the sea of human suffering, I feel guilty sometimes spending money and time on these animals, but I can't just let them suffer. That said, once this guy is dealt with, Ham Sammitch, you're next on the snip and release list. Because I don't intend to spend the summer in his pee garden.
I hope this guy can get adopted. I spent the last 8 years feeding and caring for three yard cats. We buried Bubba a year ago, he got sick and it was going to cost over 2k to figure out what was going on. I've also spent 1.5k last year when Sekie was injured on her care and recovery.
All of the local trap and release/spay/neuter services are booked out for at least two weeks at this point, so unless I take him to the emergency clinic tomorrow and pay out of pocket, then re-release him ourdoors, animal services is my only real recourse.
That kind of behavior simply will not fly in my cat house, so after a long tussel and a lot of yowling (on both our parts) I managed to get him into a trap and will probably bring him into Oakland Animal Services tomorrow for an assessment, snip, and hopefully adoption. He's friendly enough.
But tonight I came home to an angry Sekie staring down a new interloper. A cute little striped guy who looks about 8 months old, and is pretty friendly, he came right up to me for scritches, a churru, and food. Also still has his testosterone engines, however. After he ate he started bullying her.
We went about 3 years free of feral, un-neutered cats in our yard, but for the last few weeks a big boy we're calling Ham Sandwich has been hanging around and spraying. I haven't really done much to snag him since our yard cat in residence, Queen Seckie has been able to cower him.
Probably a bit of both. Justice in this country is beyond broken.
